5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent portable optical drive
LaCie has a wonderful reputation making products for Macintosh, and they live up to it here. It is a little expensive compared to other drives, but the convenience, reliability, portability and style more then make up for the price.

3.0 out of 5 stars No DVD player option on MacBook Pro
Lightscribe took 17 minutes to perform one burn. Looks nice! I created some nice artwork to label some CDs for sale. Possibly too much info?? I dunno. Obviously, I just can't plan on doing anything more than an occasional use of this option - not that much time to burn.

Worse is that my Macbook pro DVD player software will not recognize this drive...

Worse is that my Macbook pro DVD player software will not recognize this drive. Not even to play any sort of DVD video. Macbook only will see this drive as a fully functional CD -RW, and DVD-RW for storage purposes only.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looks great, works great, exactly what I needed!, October 25, 2008

When I was looking for a DVD burner for my Macbook, there was only one choice: LaCie. I was looking for something that needed no external power, required no additional drivers, and FireWire preferred since all my USB ports are eaten up.

This burner fits the bill, and does it wonderfully. Burns great, and the LightScribe is a cool little bonus. Definitely my favorite peripheral.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good portable drive, September 6, 2008

The weight makes it great for going places with. Rip speed is slower than I expected, but I'm overall happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top of the line portable burner, May 16, 2009
This review is from: LaCie 301231 Firewire Slim DVD±RW Drive with LightScribe Design by Sam Hecht (Personal Computers)

LaCie is known for producing reasonably price, reliable peripherals and this unit is no exception. It performs as advertised and what more can you ask then that? It burns and it reads: just what is promised - and it does it flawlessly. It is light, very portable and stylish. I wish all manufacturers took as much care as LaCie does with every aspect of their product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless with my Mac, October 9, 2009

Did not work with my Mac. Customer support was, in a word, unsupportive. I returned it to Amazon the next day.

Don't waste your time by believing their compatibility promos.

so far this product has done what it's supposed to do. but i still haven't been able to burn a lightscribe image onto a dvd.

maybe it's only mac related. i get an error message that says it might be the brand of disc i'm using. i haven't tried another brand but when i run out of the current batch i have, i'll try another brand.

other than that, the price seemed right and it burns dvd's like it's supposed to do...
