I bought this item with the intent of being able to record tv shows and being able to watch them via my network in other rooms of the house. I have a MVIX multimedia player in a second room that will stream media from my network onto the tv nicely. The MVIX could not communicate with the lacie, and my computers could not see the content on the lacie. The lacie has 2 partitions, one for record and one for storing media. The lacie would not play media from my network. The lacie is a black hole. Data goes in, but never comes out. I visited several fourms and tried customer support.... e-mail only.... and finally returned the item. This is a close but no cigar item. It easily could have been designed to be a great item, but they blocked with intent any ability to move media to dvd or to share with another room.
