Will never purchase LaCie products again.

This fact merits it's own paragraph: The LaCie USB 3.0 ExpressCard34 ONLY WORKS WITH THEIR BRAND OF USB HARD DRIVES.

Warning, do not purchase this card! I bought it because the manufacturer claimed it was compatible with OSX. I found out after I got the card that the manufacturer locked it so it only works with their brand of hard drives. That makes it completely worthless and deceptively marketed. The whole point of "universal" serial bus is that it's supposed to work universally across products following the standard. This product does not do that and should not be marked as USB. It's more like LSB (LaCie Serial Bus).

This product is a waste of money, don't buy it.

I bought it cause they claim it works with Mac OS X, I bought it and downloaded the driver only to find out that it only works with LaCie USB 3.0 drives.

I contacted support to ask them, they asked me to contact Apple or my USB 3.0 drive manufacturer for support. And after explaining that it's their responsibility to make the driver as caldigit.com did with their card. They replied that they won't make any drivers.

They are Thieves, don't waste your money. LaCie is a company who only cares about their pockets.

If you purchase this item, and try to plug in existing USB 3.0 equipment not from LaCie, you'll see a message show up in the System Console saying that non-LaCie devices are "not supported".

In that case, this is not a USB 3.0 device. This is a proprietary card for interfacing to LaCie hardware; it might incidentally be talking to drives over USB 3.0 but since you cannot talk to anything but LaCie equipment it should not be called a USB 3.0 interface.

Nowhere in the product marketing does it note this restriction, only that it is a USB 3.0 card and works with Macs. The USB 3.0 is plainly false since it doesn't work with all USB 3.0 devices, and as such is deceptive and misleading.

Completely unacceptable!!!! To make a product that is deceptively labeled as USB 3.0 compatible and then lock it into your own hardware. This is deceptive marketing and labelling! This behaviour is unethical and unacceptable. I recommend boycotting all La Cie products, now and in the future. Perhaps their notion is that Apple customers are intellectually challenged and deep pocketed enough not to notice this deplorable behaviour. I suggest we teach them a lesson. To Amazon, I suggest dropping the product line, this kind of product is beneath the level of service and concern I expect and have always received from Amazon!

As other reviewers have stated: this is only for LaCie hard drives. If you have one of their USB 3 HDs, this might be an option. For everyone else (ie people who already OWN hard drives), this is useless. This critical limitation is NOT adequately documented on the packaging.

If you like headaches you can try this one... I have years of experience with macs, I'm mac support IT. This card is just not good. You need external power from another usb outlet, it only works with LaCie drives and the speed you get is the same as the regular USB 2.0. Piece of crap. Complaint with LaCie, but the guys are clueless about macs, made me waste a week, send me a new card just in case... same result... don't waste your time... USB 3.0 is not ready yet... (May 2011) might be better soon with better drivers... but not now...

This adapter is locked to only work with other Lacie products. It won't work with anything else. I have a drive that plugs into my computers USB 2.0 slot just fine but when plugged into the Lacie adapter, it doesn't work.

I got this card thinking I could use any USB 3 Device as long as it was the USB 3 standard. As it turns out the mac drivers will only work with any USB 3 hard drive that LaCie puts out. and you will need the extra power supply.
