Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Let the LabVIEW experts show you how to leverage the power of the world's fastest-growing graphical programming platform! In the test and measurement market, LabVIEW has become the dominant platform for graphical programming on both PCs and Macintoshes, as well as Sun and HP workstations. Advances in the LabVIEW development and runtime environments have made it increasingly competitive with textual languages like C--even in applications outside its traditional instrumentation market. Still, there hasn't been a resource--written by top experts--that shows advanced users, professional developers, and computer-scientists how to make the most of LabVIEW and its popular C language... until now. Gary Johnson's LabVIEW Power Programming brings together some of the world's foremost LabVIEW authorities, who explore such critically important topics as software quality assurance, format software engineering methods, networking, and other advanced techniques that simply aren't covered anywhere else. Written by a "Who's Who of LabVIEW," this one-of-a-kind, advanced LabVIEW programming book features: everything you need to know to fully network LabVIEW; in-depth discussions of interapplication communication and calls to external code; a LabVIEW software quality assurance (SQA) guide and toolkit; examination of mathematics, simulation, and signal processing issues. The book comes with a CD-ROM that provides numerous "virtual instruments" written in software. What's more, you'll also find a wide variety of LabVIEW programming tools and utilities--all expressly designed to boost the productivity of advanced LabVIEW users.

4.0 out of 5 stars Takes LabVIEW Programming beyond DAQ., November 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: LabVIEW Power Programming (Paperback)
In my opinion, the most useful sections of this book are the chapters on software engineering, and preparing a comprehensive requirements document. Having worked on several VIs originally developed by other LabVIEW programmers, I can definitely say that the development process is something we all need to pay more attention to...

Another interesting area is the section devoted to encryption. I have successfully applied these concepts to several of my own projects.

While not a LabVIEW "learning" text, or a practical guide to DAQ problem-solving, this book is very useful for the LabVIEW programmer who has mastered the basics and is looking for other interesting directions to follow.

1.0 out of 5 stars Put me to sleep!, July 18, 2000

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: LabVIEW Power Programming (Paperback)
This book is so "wordy" that it will put you to sleep. There is very little useful information or examples on the CD. I think I wasted my money on this book and don't want you to do the same. If you really want it, I will sell you mine at 50% off. I don't want it.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book filled most of my knowledge gaps about LabVIEW, November 24, 1999
This review is from: LabVIEW Power Programming (Paperback)
This is my second LabVIEW book outside of the documentation set that ships with the product. It is well worth the read. A good portion of the book talks about good structured programming techniques, which is important, but not what I expected.

The real benefit of the book is in the advanced techniques, examples and tips that I'd not found anywhere else in any detail.

It's doubtful that any one person would benefit from every portion of the book because the author covers a broad array of topics, but the items I found of interest were very complete and allowed me to sit back and say, "O.K., Now I really understand how that's done."
