Recognize a classic when you see one!,

I'm tired. I am tired of having to wait years between decent hip cop cds that I can listen to and absorb and get something new from everytime I listen to it. I long for the mid 90's, when, in my opinion, hip hop was at its prime. And folks, this CD embodied that spirit of innovation and fun that made me fall in love with hip hop.I remember when the source robbed this CD, giving it only 3 1/2 mics(?). I was mad as hell, but after they gave Master P and Westside Connect praises, I realized how wack and political the source had become. I think that when this cd came out, there was a battle within the industry between being all about the cash and all about the art. We know who won that battle. It set the stage for characters like Jay-Z and Mase to come in and cash in with unoriginal, recycled production a la puff. Recognize that this is one of the best hip hop contributions ever. Fatlip delivered some of the most memorable verses put on wax. And the production by Jay Dee was fresh and original, as opposed to his work with the Ummah that has sadly become predictable (with his patented beat manipulations that have grown tiresome - check out love movement by tribe, although his work on Common's last joint is alot better). The attitude was fun and innovative. This here joint represents what we lost with the evolution of the rap industry. If you don't have it, you are not hip hop, money. Go get it.

true hip-hop from the west coast,
By A Customer

The Pharcyde blends hip-hop in its truest form. If you love jazz, then The Pharcyde is for you. Although this album is not as inventive as Bizarre Ride, it shows the group's new-found dynamic of incorporating more mature lyrics with the same unique sound of the Cyde. This truly represents the Underground genre of hip-hop in LA! This is west coast hip-hop, forget Snoop and the Dogg Pound and all those who claim to be West Coast Rap. The Pharcyde is the LA sound of hip-hop!

this is the best album in hip hop right now,

It is rare that any hip hop band or solo artist will release something as superior as lab cabin..this cd shows other artists how poor their music is and really shows how music can be taken to another level. Whith jazz samples and incredible lyrics..this shall be a hip hop classic for ages. It amazes me how Master P and Puff Daddy make millions off their bubble gum songs. They shouldd be ashamed of themselves and the incredible amounts of money they make while there is groups like the roots, de la, black moon and the pharcyde making incredible music that will last forever.

You can't not fail to not dislike this album!!!,

Labcabincalifornia is actually several notches above the Pharcyde's debut, which had only one song that is superior to anything on Labcabin ("caught 'em in the a** on the downstroke!"). This effort is much more the creative and rich, engaging listen. On Labcabin the Pharcyde show a wonderful blend of soul, play (some, of course, tasteless), rap, and great beats. This is one of the few albums I know of that makes a suitable heir to 70s soul because, unlike a milktoast act such as Maxwell or ultra-sheen cr*p pop like Missy Elliot, the Pharcyde update soul and have some grit, just as Stevie, Marvin, Curtis, etc. did in the early 70s. In my book this is also one of the top 10 hip hop albums of the decade. Miss it at your peril!

Musically better than the first one,

It's sad that this album got overlooked the way that it did because it was an exceptional effort. Instead of coming back out with that ol' childishness from the first lp (altho' that was refreshing for 1992), they grew as artists and got criticized in the process. it's unfortunate, b/c I think a lot of people missed out on an excellent ride to the far side.

Inventive, creative and entertaining,

The Pharcyde got truly inventive style. If you enjoy hip hop jems like pete rock & c.l smooth or de la soul, pick up this album. Dis album features creative soulful lyrics over smooth jazzy beats and is a great listen for when ya all chillin' and laid back in ya crib.

This CD was good, but not the Pharcyde I was looking for,

Its sad to say that you can easily tell something is really different between these two records. I was really hyped about buying this CD, but it sounds like a completely different group. It still sounds quite good, but it lacks the same uniqeness the first one had.

This album is dope, theres not much more you can really say about it. Its HipHop at its finest, its not like some of the corny "hiphip" today. its real, the beats are smooth, and the lyrics fit perfectly within. So if you want some real HipHop pick up this one.
