Book Description

Murray and Heulsmann present a clinically oriented, practical guidebook that will maximize maternal and fetal outcomes. The text features 12 sections covering important issues such as the labor curve and protraction disorders, rupture of the membranes, and uterine activity patterns.

While similar to the author's Essentials of Fetal Monitoring, this book places significant emphasis on how to approach these labor and delivery issues with care and efficiency. It also features more references and convenient review questions at the end of each section. An excellent reference and resource on all labor and delivery issues, this book serves as an easy-to-read manual for RNs who practice in, or are new to, labor and delivery settings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional, comprehensive, explicit, and delightful to read!, February 18, 2009
This review is from: Labor and Delivery Nursing: Guide to Evidence-Based Practice (Paperback)
This is the first time I actually couldn't put down a textbood! Evidence based practices,(resources noted),enrich this teaching tool, written with clarity and precision, highlighting the neccessary knowledge and attitudes required to be an effective care provider. I highly recommend this book to medical students and nurses alike. If you want to develop confidence and competence, refresh your knowledge, or polish your comprehension, this book does all of that, and more. I so appreciated obtaining knowledge that excites and elevates the practice of nursing!
Challenging us to be at the top of our game;"to possess an understanding of maternal and fetal physiology and to know the purpose and physiologic impact of our actions," or inactions. Incites behaviors that would create a culture-of-collaboration, a patient-centered-service system, intent to engage a supportive environment enabling safety and satisfaction. Wow!

I bought this book to help me as a new nurse in an inpatient OB-Antepartum&Postpartum nurse. It helped me see what was going on in Labor & Delivery. The writer's style is very easy to read & she makes very practical sense on how to manage your career in L&D. O love this book and have re-read it several times to keep data fresh in my mind.
