Gr 10 Up--A comprehensive volume of definitions related to U.S labor and employment law. Terms are arranged alphabetically and entries range from a paragraph to several pages. The clearly written explanations are based on cases, statutes, regulations, and commentaries on the law. Significant federal and state statutes governing employment relations in the broad categories of labor-management relations, equal opportunity, wages and hours, health and safety, and benefits are discussed. The volume is user-friendly and has a visually appealing layout. Access is enhanced by a detailed subject index and a 13-page table of contents that lists each term, case, or law defined; it proves very helpful to have terms and statutes (such as those beginning with "Age Discrimination") clustered on a single page. Most articles end with a list of relevant terms, cases, etc., that refers readers to other entries. All cases mentioned in the text are italicized, providing easy cross-referencing. Two separate tables list every case or statute mentioned and provide full U.S. Code or NLRB (National Labor Relations Board) citations. A nine-page list for further reading is also included; unfortunately, these titles are listed alphabetically, making it difficult to extract materials on a particular topic. This work provides up-to-date coverage in a nontechnical manner for general readers.
