Book Description

0763702471 978-0763702472 January 1997 Pap/Dsk
This lab is intended to give students an opportunity to understand the syntax and semantics of the language as they move through the course. The author feels that learning through laboratory activities is the ideal way for students to truly understand a difficult language. This manual can be used in either a closed (faculty supervised) or open (without supervision) lab setting. Each chapter is organized into three types of activities Prelab, In-lab, and Post-lab. The Prelab activities include a reading review assignment and simple paper and pencil exercises. The In-lab activities are broken into lessons, each of which represents a concept covered in the chapter. The Post-lab exercises are a collection of outside programming assignments appropriate for each chapter.

1.0 out of 5 stars Is there a no star choice?, December 22, 1999
These labs were the epitome of drudgery. This book did not give you the resources to complete the excercises and I had to buy another text (C++ How To Program by Deitel and Deitel) just so I could complete the labs. Steer clear, unless you have to use this book in your CS class, of course.

3.0 out of 5 stars It helps to have the companion book., June 1, 2000

In response to the review by rfraley, this book is intended as a companion to _Programming and Problem Solving with C++_ (2 ed.) by Dale, Weems, and Headington. The Lab Course book by itself may seem incomplete.

I have not yet worked with the Lab Course book, but I am using the P&PSw/C++ book in a Master's level programming course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for the beginner., January 12, 2011
This book is really great for the beginner. You can actually pick it up and just read it from cover to cover, all 1000+ pages of it. It has great exercises and chapter notes at the end of each chapter. I highly recommend this book to anyone learning C++ on their own. This book has helped me immensely.
