5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, October 9, 2011

This lab book is extremely helpful in my understanding of Human A&P. You just have to dedicate the time to it. I love their tables and charts that summarize the information in a logical manner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty great for a required book, August 30, 2011

This lab manual was required for my Anatomy & Physiology class, and was meant for us to pair with Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology with IP 10-System suite (8th Edition). The textbook is also very good and offers quite a few techniques to help students, but in a fast-paced class, I found that reading the lab manual was sometimes the quicker speed I needed.

The lab manual matches up well with the textbook; obviously it is more comprehensive on laboratory activities, is generally less detailed, and does omit some information that your professor will test you on from the textbook. I used it in laboratory, and to quickly introduce a unit's anatomy. It cannot be used alone, but was able to read the textbook less. I get overwhelmed with a huge textbook in front of me, so I really appreciated the quality of the text in the lab manual. It was also helpful to read before a lab, and I found that the review questions following each chapter (though not required by my professor) were great in reinforcing what we learned & to further study.

Pictures & diagrams are quite good, and the ability to neatly tear off a page for quick reference is helpful.
I appreciate the spiral binding; it is good for lab activities especially pig dissection, where you can't hold open the book and wield a probe at the same time. I do wish the cover was more durable; it is intended for a 2-semester A&P class, and I found that regular use lead to quick wear.

** For all A&P students ** - I would try to get either the Lab Manual or the Fundamentals textbook with Pearson's Myaandp.com website code intact & unused. This was honestly very valuable. I found the Practice Anatomy Lab (PAL 2.0) and online activities (including quizzes, diagram labeling, tough topic mp3s) were VERY helpful, and several other people in my class agreed with me. The practice anatomy lab has self-review, quizzes, and fill-in-the-blank lab practical practices for a human cadaver, plastic anatomical models, fetal pig, and cat. It's a great way to supplement your knowledge and review for lab exams.
