This review is from: Laboratory methods in histotechnology (Paperback)
I thought this was some kind of study guide for histotechnology, but all it really is a reprint of the AFIP (Armed Forces Institute of Pathology) Laboratory Methods in Histotechnology (1992). This means that it is just a photocopy of the original text. While the drawings are okay, all photos are in black and white and are faded and washed out. You cannot tell what a slide is supposed to look like and that is the real downside. I am new to the field and needed a handy guide. This book is good for information, but bad for pictures, and being a newbie, it kind of helps to see the color and details of the slide and some pictures of procedures. All the slide pictures look like psychology blot tests. I'm not exaggerating. You can't see any color or detail. If you don't care and have a separate guide to stains and can just look it up, then this book should be sufficient. If you are like me and like to have things all together, then this book is not okay. So, to sum things up: 1. The information appears to be good. I have not gotten heavily into the field, so I cannot say for sure though. If you read any reviews for the actual AFIP book, then go with that. 2. The picture photocopies are horrible and completely useless.
This is unfortunate because it was such a great price.
