Most women start dating never anticipating that a man will abuse them, but there are plenty of men who do. From childhood problems to unresolved issues with their parents, these young men will not hesitate hitting, choking or slapping a woman. In Laboring to Love an Abusive Mate, Nicholl McGuire who was 21 at the time journals her experience of dating to finally settling down with an abuser. She chronicles their relationship ups and downs through poetry and calls the reader's attention to their own relationship problems by asking questions at the end of most of her poems.
