Book Description

October 8, 2008

Adoption is not for the faint of heart. Labours of Love chronicles the journeys of Canadians who have overcome heartbreaking obstacles to become parents. Their stories are as diverse as our country, and span the borders of our world. While each account is unique in its own way, the stories are connected by the overwhelmingly commonality of the power of human connection.

Editorial Reviews

Review

a warm and tender book about the world of adoption.

From the Inside Flap

Labours of Love unearths an issue that is still stigmatized in some areas of the country. Through conversations with adoptive parents, adoptees, and birthparents who reveal their inmost feelings, the reader will gain a new understanding of the joy and complexity of adoption.

4.0 out of 5 stars labours of love, December 27, 2008
This review is from: Labours of Love: Canadians Talk About Adoption (Paperback)
This is a book obviously written with a compassionate hand. The stories are heartfelt and bittersweet. As an adoptive parent, I was grateful that so many people were willing to share very personal events in their lives and that it focuses on Canadian situations. I haven't seen another book like it. I did wish the paper quality was better in order to bring more life to very candid and touching photography. There was so much emotion on the participants faces. This is a must read for anyone who has adoption in their life- adoptive parents, adoptees, and extended families. I couldn't read it all at once because it is so moving, but I've reread the stories several times. What a gift this author has given.
