This is a fun, peppy and well-researched book you'll have a blast reading! Remember Marley?, August 31, 2009
This review is from: Labrador Retrievers Are the Best! (Best Dogs Ever) (Library Binding)
Ahhhhhhhhh! Labrador retrievers are just the best and most loveable dogs you ever did meet. They have boundless energy, but heck, you might say to yourself, "I can deal with that." Remember Marley? You just might want to think again! Labrador retrievers, or Labs as they are commonly known as, are "sweet, loving and playful" and under the right circumstances can be the "perfect pet." They are a large dog and can weigh anywhere from 55 to 80 pounds and aren't exactly lap dogs, although many try. They are an energetic breed that enjoys long walks, playing fetch and "enjoys a good run." They come in black, yellow, chocolate brown and are all love bugs!
These dogs just love people and are especially fond of children. This dog, according to the American Kennel Association (AKC), is one of the most popular breeds and is in the sporting group. The word "sporting" just signals that this breed is active and needs LOTS of exercise. In this book you will learn about their physical characteristics, how they "love water," you'll meet former President Bill Clinton's chocolate Lab, Buddy, you'll learn about how the "ancient Romans used dogs in their army," their origins, how they "pulled in fishing nets," how they were and are used as hunting dogs, their special uses (guide dogs, search and rescue), how long they need to stay with their mother, what you need to purchase before your dog comes home, the importance of veterinarian care, grooming, exercise and more!
This is a fun, peppy and well-researched book you'll have a blast reading. This is one of several in "The Best Dogs Ever" series and each one I've read makes me THINK I'd like to run out and get a puppy. The author does stress the importance of seriously thinking about and finding the perfect match for your family before even going to look at a dog. I love the layout of the book as it has a lot of interesting factual material and is peppered with photographs of numerous Labs of all sorts. In the back of the book is an index, a glossary and additional recommended book and website resources. Are you ready to bring a Marley home? Whoa!
