3.0 out of 5 stars Good quality but...
The sound is great, it works. But, if you have long hair like I do, the neck thing is a no no. It is just not convenient to put on and off with long hair. Also, the way it sits on your ears is not convenient when you wear glasses !! the thickness of the branches + the thickness of the headset is not working for me. Aside from that it is good haedset !

I have tried all kinds of headphones, from the painful to rather annoying Earbuds(tm) to normal headphones, and behind the ear headphones (my favorite). This is not just an average run of the mill internet telephony headphone with bad sound to make up for in cost, the sound performance is actually rather good. The design is worth mention as it doesnt make you uneasy about having headphones, theres a trigger for turning off and on the microphone, lowering and highering the volume, and a nice 8 foot long coord for a bit more mobility. Lets not forget its main feature, the microphone, I found the microphone to have almost crystal clear sound (if there is such a thing), so i had to test it on Dialpad(tm). The performance was excellent but that was due to my high speed cable connection. The sound clarity, according to my friend, was of normal quality you would expect on a average call. Overall, this is one of the rare products I actually give a 5 star on, if you need a good performance headphone + microphone, and great design with a cool look, buy the Labtec Axis-002 NOW!

As a former owner of Labtec's C-322 headset, I was looking for a more durable unit. C-322 had great sound and and pretty good sound input, but it's cheap make was prone to breaking.

Was I excited to see a behind-the head unit! You don't need to worry about sides being snapped. Sound quality is just as good as C-322, which I find good enough for MP3 and games (such as Counter-Strike). The mike input is also pretty good, from little to no static.

Not only that, there also is a control for turning mike on/off and volume control, a great plus (no more feedback from speakers).

Ergonomically, its very light and comfortable. After a while, you will forget that its on your head!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great headphones and great microphone! Superb., June 14, 2001
This review is from: Labtec Axis-002 Behind-the-Head Headset with Boom Microphone (Personal Computers)
I have bought 3 of these things so far. One as a birthday present and 2 for myself (having broken one accidentally).

Whilst looking around for a multimedia headphone for use with Netmeeting and for listenting to music, I found the Labtec Axis-002 at a local electrical store in France (I can't order these through Amazon internationally) and thought what the hell?

Fantastic! They look like proper decent personal headphones and sound like them too. The microphone is also very good.

During tests with Netmeeting over our LAN the microphone worked really well as it did in a more objective test using the PC to record the sound input as a .wav file. Tests using IBM Via Voice to do voice recognition and dictation resulted in a higher accuracy than with the bundled Via Voice headset (Andrea Anti-Noise NC-61).

Obviously you can spend far more on better, much more expensive, headphones and a dedicated microphone but for pc use (video conference, gaming, music and voice recognition) these work fantastically well and are discrete enough that you don't look like an idiot at your desk! What more could you want?

Minor words of caution from one who knows:
1) Glue down the foam on the end of the microphone or you'll lose it in the office!
2) Be careful with the otherwise helpful extra long cable (2m). It has a tendency to get caught up in the wheels on office chairs, as I know only too well. Try to place the cable out of harm's way, its long enough to go around most desktop obstacles. I have asked Labtec if they plan to do a quick release for these in the same way that Sony do on their headsets so that you don't break the cable. Labtec said they'll think about it. Chuh right.

I purchased this headset for gaming & talking to family on-line. It has worked great with no problems what-so-ever. The only downside I can find is that it can pinch the head if worn for long periods. It would be better if it were adjustable...but for the price you can't beat it.

These are wonderful. WONDERFUL. I've got a pair for myself and my brother. Please take some glue (I used crazy) and clue the fuzz piece that sits over the microphone. You'll be happy that you did.

I use this mic when working with my VL clan Diamond Shark.

Wonderful sound. Perfect mic clearity. Comfortable and light.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Recommended Buy, July 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Labtec Axis-002 Behind-the-Head Headset with Boom Microphone (Personal Computers)
After shopping around for about 4 days, I finally decided on this headset. Purchased for $... delivered to my door, I figured at that price I wouldn't be too upset if I weren't completely satisfied. My only goal for them was voice-over-internet, primarily for gaming.
Here are my thoughts after a couple weeks of use: For the money, a great purchase. The slimmer, behind the neck design is nice. They've been comfortable to wear for up to 8 hours of use. The microphone has provided very good pick up and clarity without transmitting a lot of background noise; and the headphones provide very nice clarity for both natural and comp-gen vocals with the volume levels, from min to max, seeming to span just the right range for my tastes.
If you're looking for great music reproduction, these aren't it. Again, the vocals are very clear, but the music lacks the richness and depth that my external speakers provide. In short, it's a bit flat. But, with a bit of tweaking with an equalizer, I'm perfectly content to listen to mp3's on these while I play.
The microphone swivel has a very solid feel to it, and stays exactly here you put it. The cord has plenty of length to it, but I don't think it would take a lot of excessive abuse before it would break at it's connection point to the earphones. Recommend puting a dab of glue on the foam mic cover to keep it in place.
I didn't give these 5 stars because they didn't WOW! me; but for the price, a highly recommended buy.

This headset is has amazing sound and the mic filters out all background sound. I've used it for everything from gaming to pc to pc calls. My brother bought his own after watching me use it. Its an awesome product for the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Labtec garbage, December 4, 2005
This review is from: Labtec Axis-002 Behind-the-Head Headset with Boom Microphone (Personal Computers)
Purchased this headset a few months ago, and the mic went within 60 days. The store I bought it from was really good but could only exchange the item for the same thing. I thought maybe I got a bum set. Within 3 weeks, the mic went on the second set.!! An absolute piece of garbage. My logitech headset far FAR exceeds the quality of this set. Dont waste your time or money on these!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars These things are not that great., February 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Labtec Axis-002 Behind-the-Head Headset with Boom Microphone (Personal Computers)
I bought these things and returned them the next day. The sound quality although decent, is not as good as Labtec Axis-502 headphones, which are also half the price. My biggest problem with these things was how uncomfortable they were. the over the ears part is not padded and has a groove where the line that goes to the other side is located. This groove causes discomfort almost imediately. I suggest looking into other headsets.
