Excellent overview of labyrinth fishes!,
By Paula Ryan (Kansas City, MO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Labyrinth Fish (Hardcover)
This is a great book that covers not only the various labyrinth fish species, but also covers their behavior and aquarium needs. If you are interested in gouramis, bettas, paradise fish or even snakeheads or African labyrinth fish, you will find them all covered here. The book is extremely well researched, yet it is quite readable. Unlike so many fish dictionaries, the section on behavior and territoriality in labyrinth fish is quite helpful. Beginner or advanced fish keepers alike would likely find this book very helpful. I highly recommend it!

This review is from: Labyrinth Fish (Hardcover)
My biggest complaint is that it has several editing errors which render entire passages incomprehensible. The individual species description is quite good, though a little dated. Eventhough the general advice given about breeding was excellent, I wish that there was more detailed information on breeding specific species. Interesting passage on the history of the fish. The nutrition chapter seems a little bit obvious, but at least the author offers some novel recipes and techniques for catching and/or culturing the various live foods. Definitely a useful book, probably at the intermediate level. I wonder if I could find a book just about dwarf gouramis.
