4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictures and creative labyrinths
I have a collection of labyrinth books and I liked this one because it was very different. It, like many others, tells about the history and cultural connections of labyrinths and has gorgeous photographs. But this book is different in that it gives instructions on how to make labyrinths out of all kinds of materials--from finger labyrinths on paper and using mosaic...

3.0 out of 5 stars inaccurate info
The book has nice pictures and some good info; however, the instructions to draw the Chartres labyrinth are incorrect and the path ends in one of the quadrants without ever making it to the center.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictures and creative labyrinths, January 14, 2009
I have a collection of labyrinth books and I liked this one because it was very different. It, like many others, tells about the history and cultural connections of labyrinths and has gorgeous photographs. But this book is different in that it gives instructions on how to make labyrinths out of all kinds of materials--from finger labyrinths on paper and using mosaic tiles to very large community labyrinths including some built in three dimensions. I have used this book and will continue to do so.

If you like labyrinths, or garden arts or are drawn to meditative natural spaces, this will be a stimulating and spiritually uplifting read! You don't have to know a lot about labyrinths or their construction to discover their fascination in these pages. Wonderful, practical ideas: from simple materials to more challenging projects...temporary or permanent. Your imagination is the limit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, June 22, 2008

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have post it notes sticking out from the pages in at least 20 spots. There are numerous creative ways of making and experiencing labyrinths, most of which are affordable and require little space. The pictures are fantastic. I have used their ideas and created some labyrinths for myself. It is a great resource for anyone wanting to diversify or educate people on the many uses and experiences possible involving labyrinths.

Jim Buchanan's book Labyrinths For The Spirit is a pictorial book showing labyrinths using everything from sand to chalk to plastic forks for temporary settings to the big guns requiring professional plans and serious heavy equipment for laying out. Mr. Buchanan is a landscape architect and has designed and built a number of labyrinths and that specialized viewpoint is shown to advantage in the many full color images of labyrinths. I also enjoyed his idea of taking a city map, mark out a labyrinth on it and then walk it. I got my money's worth in this book, what more could I ask?
