Promising, punishing debut from MASS youngsters,
By Klaus P Gebhard Jr (Denver, Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Laced (Audio CD)
Seen these guys open for Godsmack in the fall of '99 and they just leveled the place. Seen them again with Static-X and they repeated the same feat. The comparisons to Rage are inevitable but Reveille have more to offer than the overbearing politics that make up Zach's rants. Dont get me wrong, I love Rage, hell...they rage! but Drews vocals demand attention, they are more personal and you can associate with what he singing about. The rest of the band are equally talented and they all mesh together perfectly. Not a weak number on this CD as all songs flow. My fave is definitely Untied though its difficult to really pick out a favorite track. I have owned this since November and it still gets constant rotation in my CD player. Met them too and they are the coolest guys (Carl, the bassist is the oldest at 20). Give these guys a chance to pummel you! See them live if you can, you won't be disappointed!

Great Debut,

I don't see why people are mad at Reveille because they sound like Rage Against The Machine. Sure, Drew screams are a lot like Zach De La Rocha, but I mean, of course some vocals have to be a little close to each other, don't they? The rest of the music doesn't sound very close to Rage Against the Machine at all, as it is far heavier. It is very melodic, and I'd like to compare it more to One Minute Silence. I really don't know why, but I think it fits rainy days well. Laced is kind of poppy and could easily be on MTV, but thankfully I don't think we'll be seeing them on TRL anytime soon. It is harsh and political, as well as being fiercly angry. The only part that I don't really like is the fact that they're not very unique. They are too easily comparable to a lot of other bands, and bands like Incubus aren't. The whole CD is fairly listenable, and it's not something that you'll have a lot of trouble getting into. My favorite songs here are Permanent (Take A Look Around), Butterfly, The Phoenix, Splitt (Comin' Out Swingin'), and Flesh And Blood. They are a great young band and the best to come out of Boston since Staind. Some similar bands to check out are Downset, One Minute Silence, and Rage Against the Machine.

Great CD, a lot of creativity, good hard rock,

If you are a big Korn or Rage fan, I believe that you will really like this album. This album rocks harder than any album I have. Reveille are very talented musicians, who deserve a lot of respect for their unique style of music. In addition, Drew is also a great song writer. I saw them w/ godsmack a few months ago and they were awesome!

No need for comparisons,

Yeah, fine, whatever, say they sound like Rage. Say they sound like whoever you want. The simple fact remains that this band has an intesity that is rarely seen in the nu-metal scene today. Yeah, lots of bands can make heavy music on an album. Then, you can see them live and wonder,"These are the guys that made this?!?" Reveille live is an experience that will leave you in awe. I first saw them at a small club opening for Powerman 5000. They put PM5K to shame. The show had so much raw energy that everyone in the entire room, whether they had ever heard them or not, started moving during the first song and never stopped. This album captures perfectly the energy they exhibit live. Songs like 'Butterfly' and 'Judas' just make your blood boil with power and angst. The album is an experience from start to finish, and no metal fan should be without it.

Reveille is a great band,

I have their CD and have seen them live twice. I was into rap for years, and was looking to get into harder music. I happened to hear the song Split and it blew me away. B Real from Cyprus hill is on that track. The vocalist from Revellie smothered him. Butterfly is an amazing opener, it will get your adrenaline pupmping, I guarantee it. The best song on the CD is the Phoenix because the lyrics are great and the hook is really catchy. In Perfect World, the guitar is really good. My other favorite is take a look around. It has the Redman beat from DA GOODNESS and the hook is catchy. The CD is one that is impossible to get tired of. It will give you incredible energy on the most boring days. "Humility is based on trust but ignorance and arrogance rule the grounds. So ashes to ashes and dust to dust. And now i want to burn this Whole Place Down"

Reveille - The New Band To Watch,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Laced (Audio CD)
You could describe Reveille as a mix of Rage Against the Machine and Deftones, with the singer's (Drew Simollardes) voice sounding like Zach de la Rocha and the guitars (Greg Sullivan, Steve Miloszewski) sounding like the style of metal Deftones use. However, the way they mix the two different styles of rap/metal, in my opinion, is unbelievable. I am from the Boston, so is Reveille, so when I heard about them I decided to support local music and give them a listen. I was blown away by the music as well as the singing (and screaming). What came to me as the biggest surprise was that they were only 16-19 years old when they recorded "Laced". In my opinion, this CD was better than any Deftones or Rage Against the Machine CD. The CD goes strong from the beginning song "Butterfly" to the end song "Dark Horizons" The anger in the voice of Drew Simollardes really adds to the blaring guitars of Steve Miloszewski and Greg Sullivan. The bass parts, played by Carl Randolph, in songs like "Butterfly" and "Perfect World" are examples that bass players from bands that are really terrible (ex. Limp Bizkit, bass player Sam Rivers,) should take after. The drum fills in the 12 songs on the CD are amazing and, me being a drummer myself, enjoy playing them on my drum set. My favorite songs on the CD are "Butterfly", "Rise And Blind", and "Feel". But, all the songs on the CD are great. The mixture of metal and rap is a perfect example of how nu-metal should sound these days, not like Limp Bizkit or Korn. Now, I have talked to my friends about Reveille and most of my friends have not heard of them. I gave them a listen to " Laced" and they are all going out to buy it. They are definately a band people should be looking out for, because Limp Bizkit and Korn will not last too much longer and that's when true bands like Reveille will be standing strong. To conclude, Reveille's CD "Laced" is a must-buy. "Laced" is my favoreite CD of all time. If you are into Rage Against the Machine and Deftones, pick up "Laced". And although they don't get a lot of air-play, they deserve to be on MTV more than Limp Bizkit or Korn.

Full steam rage, this guys can kick .... I bought this album without really listening nor knowing 'em, and it turned out to be one of my favourites cds. in the first month of having it, I just played it again and again. This cd is really powerfull, Reveille can really play together as a band, and what can I say, it rocks. If you listen to Rage against the machine/ Korn / Slipknot / SilverChair / Senser and this kind of bands, you will LOVE this cd.

More like Slipknot,

People say they sound like Rage. Apparently they haven't heard Slipknot yet because they sound MUCH more like Slipknot than Rage. It's in the hardness..the beat..and the vocals are as rough and loud and painful as Slipknot's. Definitely harder than Rage.

I am baffled by the talent of these youngsters. Their future is bright, and this album is spectacular. The guitars rip through you, the drums pound, and the lyrics hit so hard that adrenaline pumps just by listening. The whole production is very tight and polished - an absolutely impressive album.

Great CD!!!,

The first time I ever saw or heard of Reveille was when they opened for Godsmack at Vets (in Providence) in '99. Although I was there for Godsmack, Reveille had already blown me away before the headliner even came out. They play with so much energy and raw human emotion that I don't think I could find the words to do them justice. In addition to recommending this cd I would also recommend catching a show if you can. I had totally fallen in love with them and after that I became an avid supporter. Since then, I have seen them at least a dozen times in venues all over New England. This is a must own cd! The songs are great!! From Butterfly all the way to Dark Horizons it's filled with some great riffs, some really deep lyrics, and emotion. Although there are some who would say they sound like Rage, I beg to differ. There are some similarities yes, but on the other hand if you listened you could tell the difference in not only the music itself but also the messages conveyed. In all fairness I could probably name 10 rappers that sound alike along with 10 pop divas who all wish to sound and look just like the ones that came before.
