On Courage

This dialogue takes upon itself to discuss the nature of courage. Though the dialogue ends in approach (as so many of the early dialogues do), many interesting arguments are provided for and against Nicias' definition. They approach defining courage in the same way as Holiness in Euthyphro, virtue in Meno, and friendship in Lysis which lends insight to Plato's method of universal definition. It is worth reading this dialogue even to compare to his later dialogues on definition (such as Sophist), but the dialogue takes a bit longer than necessary to develop the "setting". For this reason, if one is interested in the method of universal definition, then I recommend reading one of the more concise dialogues noted above (of which Euthyphro is the most concise).
