My Goal: To get 6TB of FAST and SAFE and REDUNDANT storage for my iMac 5k (Late 2014 model)

I have too many photos and videos to take risk and have lost all of my data due to a hard disk / raid failure before, so am going to significant lengths here.

I run a 12TB Lacie 2Big in raid 1 (mirrored) as my time machine backup (so 6TB of space for time machine) and a 6TB Lacie 2Big in raid 0 (striped) for fast read/write storage of all my media (photos, videos, music). This way if one of the Lacie enclosures goes down I have backup for it as well as the three local copies of my files (primary, first time machine backup, and mirror of time machine backup). Between these drives, drop box, flickr, and an off-site backup solution (I'm thinking of either crash plan or carbonite) my chance of loosing all my digital files again should be minimal.

Cons/steps to get working:
Disabled 'power nap' in Mac OSX Yosemite.
Disabled 'put hard disks to sleep when possible'
Replaced the 3ft Thunderbolt Cables with the 1.5' (0.5m) cables from Apple.
Had some initial issues daisy chaining two of these together so have each connected directly. Might try daisy chaining again now that I've made the other changes.
One or more of those steps got both of the Lacie 2Bigs to mount/unmount sleep/wake without any issues... no 'disk ejected improperly errors', etc. They are flawless now.

Pros:
Works great with my late 2014 retina iMac.
Quiet enough
All aluminum construction oozes quality and dissipates heat like a champ (they did get warm when I first moved all of my media over to them and ran my first backup)
Reasonably small footprint
The raid 0 via thunderbolt is FAST.

Basically, only good for fast backup. I bought two of these, planning to do speedy video editing. The transfer rates are good--about 370mbs R/W--BUT latency is a joke. If you pause using the drive even for a few seconds, you have to wait for it to start transferring again. Add up all those wait times and deduct that from the transfer rates. I opted for an ADDITIONAL 2 1TB Samsung SSDs, concatenated to make a single virtual 2TB drive for video editing. Now FCPX is constantly instantaneous. The two 12TB LaCie 2BIG drives are now for backup and file and clip storage.

It's a good drive with lots of space, the most cost effective drive on the market with this capacity and speed. My only issues are the noise (it makes lots of clicking sounds louder than any other external drive I have owned) and there is no way of turning off the signature blue Lacie eye which I find very distracting, especially in a dark room or when it's blinking.

This is a very solid and fast external raid drive and with 12TB of storage, it has the capacity to hold lots of HD video, the reason I purchased it. My only disappointment is that the Thunderbolt connection is not recognized by my HP ZBook laptop that is an early model that had the 10gbps version of the Thunderbolt port. This is even though the Thunderbolt 2 interface is supposed to be backward compatible with the original Thunderbolt ports. Both Lacie and HP Support have not been able to resolve the problem. Luckily, the drive is also equipped with a USB 3.0 port and that works fine but is half the speed of the Thunderbolt port and that was the whole reason for buying both the Laptop and the drive. I think this is a Windows driver issue of some sort and maybe some day it will be solved.
