Fastest FireWire speeds ever
Equipped with the blazing FireWire 800 and FireWire 400 interfaces, the LaCie Bigger Disk Extreme drive can achieve amazing sustained transfer rates that make it twice as fast as most FireWire 400 drivesII. This high-performance drive also allows for native RAID 0 speed without complicated configuration. Hot-pluggable with immediate device recognition, this drive's FireWire capabilities offer unbeatable ease of use with no software installation required for Windows XP and Mac OS X users.
RAID performance and ease of use
Compatible with Mac and PC platforms, this drive features two FireWire 800 ports and one FireWire 400 port, making it ideal for audio and video professionals working on large DV video, SD video and video RAID projects. Cross-platform with plug-and-play convenience, this drive is significantly quieter, smaller and more affordable than a RAID tower and can be easily shared among FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and iLink computers and workstations.
Aluminum alloy design
The LaCie Bigger Disk Extreme features a stylish, metallic design crafted from a sturdy aluminum alloy. A drive stand provides stability and allows for upright desktop use to save valuable desk space, while an optional rack-mounting kit enables versatile configuration in standard 19-inch racks. This drive's convenient, automatic on/off feature conserves energy and prolongs the life of the drive.

Bad Drive!,
By Joe Cool "Joe" (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lacie 1 TB FireWire Bigger Disk Extreme (300874) (Personal Computers)
The first one of these I purchased started smoking a day after I got it, then started making a rattling sound. Had to send it back in and they swapped it, but of course all my data I had moved over was lost.
The second drive worked for about 6 months, after which it failed to power up. All the power adapter does is flash now. I have ordered a new power supply hoping that is the problem as this time I have a lot of data on the drive and hope I haven't lost it again. Buy some other drive.....

Constant error messages with this drive,
By Long Beach Native (Long Beach, California USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lacie 1 TB FireWire Bigger Disk Extreme (300874) (Personal Computers)
It may not be a bug with Lacie (could be inherent to USB 2.0, or XP SP2, or ???), but whoever is at fault, the drive constantly gives hardware errors. LaCie support is unhelpful despite the fact that if you do a web search, tons of people are having "delayed write failed" problems with LaCie drives. Save yourself a lot of aggravation and avoid LaCie products.

Just bought 2 of these drives and right out of the box one was dead. Doesn't inspire much confidence in the longevity of the other.
