Bad Drive!,
By Joe Cool "Joe" (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lacie 1 TB FireWire Bigger Disk Extreme (300874) (Personal Computers)
The first one of these I purchased started smoking a day after I got it, then started making a rattling sound. Had to send it back in and they swapped it, but of course all my data I had moved over was lost. The second drive worked for about 6 months, after which it failed to power up. All the power adapter does is flash now. I have ordered a new power supply hoping that is the problem as this time I have a lot of data on the drive and hope I haven't lost it again. Buy some other drive.....

Constant error messages with this drive,
By Long Beach Native (Long Beach, California USA) - See all my reviews

It may not be a bug with Lacie (could be inherent to USB 2.0, or XP SP2, or ???), but whoever is at fault, the drive constantly gives hardware errors. LaCie support is unhelpful despite the fact that if you do a web search, tons of people are having "delayed write failed" problems with LaCie drives. Save yourself a lot of aggravation and avoid LaCie products.

Just bought 2 of these drives and right out of the box one was dead. Doesn't inspire much confidence in the longevity of the other.

Have for a month so far, works great so far, seems slow but its working. Copying my movies over to it. Some vibration from the case that is annoying.

These drives are junk,
This review is from: Lacie 1 TB FireWire Bigger Disk Extreme (300874) (Personal Computers)
I have had two of these drives and the best of the 2 was able to keep all of the data for about 6 months. I had about 2000 folders with an average of 250 files each using about half of the drive space. The first drive kept track of the files for about 10 days then it lost track of the last 40% of the folders but didn't free up the disk space. Support said to upgrade firmware and customize about 20 settings, format the drive and restore all of the data. I got the vendor to come up with another drive and this one was better. It kept track of the files for about 6 months. Then it started to do the same thing. Believe me these drives are not worth anything. If you have one I suggest you keep good backups. If your looking for a drive don't waste your money on this one.
