I purchased this disk array, stripped out the disks and replaced them with 2xSSD's. The performance has been beyond all my expectations. My use of this array is for demonstrating very large and complex computer systems that normally require a server class machine. I have been able to put the software and database for several applications onto this disk, run the applications from my MacBook Pro and get faster results than our data center servers. I will be purchasing another one of these and daisy chain them together. The small footprint of this unit has made it a perfect fit for my needs as i am constantly traveling all over the world and it fits snugly into my briefcase.
I just purchased a second unit - the 2TB one - it is fast and it is compact. I use these disks on my mac with vmware for LINUX servers running large ORACLE based ERP systems and i have three such systems running at the same time from my notebook. I tried this with E-SATA and USB3 on a windows7 corei7 pc and could not get a workable solution. Everyone watchimg my demo is now amazed at the speed of the system on my macbook. IT HAS ACHIEVED everything i ever wanted and have not been able to obtain from previous technologies.

This is a compact and a very powerful hard drive. It's equipped with two super-fast Thunderbolt interfaces. The transfer speeds are just awesome. The drive looks excellent next to my new iMac, both the style and the color of the aluminum go very well together. I'm enjoying using it, and have not experienced any problems so far.

I dont know why some of the negative reviewers dont see these speeds; but, as lacie claimed I get 180+MB/s read and write speeds with 1TB model in RAID0. I bought this for video editing and this simply rocks. I have a Agility-3 SSD as my macbook's internal drive and that drive gives me only upto 160-170 MB/s read and write speeds and sometimes even 150MB/s. So, these 7200rpm drives in RAID0; simply rock.

For those who wanna get it but can't afford it. I got the refurbished one from macmall.com for just $209(excluding the cable) which is still available. So I think that is a steal and yousave more than 170bucks. So think about it? I know it is refurbished, but i took the leap of faith and am happy with it. Hopefully for longer.

I am so impressed with this, that I started bidding in ebay for a used one of the same, and finally won a deal for $175 for a used lacie little big 1TB including thunderbolt cable. I think it is a steal again. I only hope they last long. I could not keep quiet with such good deals and so had to share with you guys. :) :D

I love this drive! Two 7200 rpm 500 gig Hard Drives wrapped up neatly in a nice looking case and connected to a thunderbolt interface..what is not to love! This drive has a total of two thunderbolt ports in back for daisy chaining to other thunderbolt devices. I have this daisy chained to a WD raid and Seagate raid (both thunderbolt models) connected to my Macbook Pro and this setup is very FAST!! The lacie will backup my internal drive in 1min 30seconds on average. The sheer speed of these drives make them well worth having! You can also easily just remove the hard drives in this unit and replace them with SSDs for even more blazing speed!

I purchased this as I had a spare 512GB, Sata-3, SSD and my MBP only has a Thunderbolt connector. The bottle neck is on the Little Big Disk as the board uses Sata-2, not Sata-3. So I'm never going to fully realize the potential of the Thunderbolt connector down the road with this enclosure.

I have a Sata 3-SSD in the enclosure, non-raid, and a regular disk in the other bay. The SSD performs at ~200 MBp/s for for the write and ~240MBp/s for read access. This isn't terribly bad, but I have an internal SSD as the main drive in the MBP and the speeds are twice that. However, as I'll be using this for VMs and I'll have plenty of these filling the SSD on the Little Big Disk, this is the route I decided to take - rather than consume space on the internal SSD in the MBP. Just keep this in mind, $380 dollars for a Sata 2 enclosure to Thunderbolt connector is what you're buying. The product number on this is 9000106.

I had contacted Lacie to see if they had a different enclosure with regular disks that had a faster connector (sata-3 on board), but they refused to answer the question and deferred me to their SSD Little Big Disk setup. Perhaps because they knew well that the intent was to rip the drives out and put my own drives in there. For the other posters that commented that the performance with SSDs in raid are amazing, the performance on a Sata-3 SSD without a raid, connected to a sata-3 board, would beat the performance of two sata-3 drives in raid on a sata-2 board. I can't justify the cost of another SSD for this purpose as it seems to me a waste of space, I'd rather deal with the above numbers.

I am sure that it would have been good had it worked. I purchased a reconditioned one that was not reconditioned enough. It did not work.

It is very fast. Time machine's backup goes most fast than Iomega. It is small and beautiful.

I would recommend for everyone.
