Mommies and daddies need some time every day to take showers or make dinner and this toy allows you that opportunity without sticking the kids in front of the TV. The lacing blocks and beads teach your child hand/eye coordination, reasoning and sequencing, while promoting self-confidence. The colors are vibrant and the wooden blocks are durable. I think this toy will be around our house for awhile. In addition, I noticed that this toy is for children 3+, but my two year old twins enjoy this toy a lot and because the pieces are larger than they might appear on the screen, it is my opinion, they do not pose a real chocking hazard.

My 2 1/2 year olds received these beads for Christmas and love them. It has taken a little while to figure out the mechanics of pushing the string through the holes but great eye-hand coordination development. They also love to stack the beads and can build a very tall tower. We have also done some sorting by shape and color. Very fun toy.

My two year old received this for her birthday, and it was an instant hit with her and her five year old sister. Even though the age range says 3 on the package, the only chocking hazard I can see would be the plastic guides on the ends on the laces, and supervising the child should protect against swallowing those. The blocks are chunky and brightly colored, with numbers or shaped to count. This is a wonderful educational, no-batteries toy that won't stretch your budget.

As an early childhood educator I try to provide at home the same developmentally appropriate toys my classroom contained. Now as a stay at home Mom, I was thrilled to find the lacing beads at an affordable price.

My biggest complaint however it that the beads are made of wood and unfortunately were not sanded down very well on the inside. Therefore, when my sweet daughter tries to string the beads, the strings get "hung up" inside the bead. Sometimes, the wood is so rough inside the bead that I even have a hard time getting the string to go through at all!

I am very disappointed with the lack of attention to detail and poor quality from Melissa and Doug. This toy cannot be used for its intended purpose, which is letting my daughter use her fine motor skills. Instead, Mommy has to string them for her and she enjoys pulling them out. Not quite the activity I had in mind when I purchased this item and not what the toy is intended for.

I did not give this toy the absoute lowest rating because my daughter loves to wear the necklaces that I make for her with the string and beads. So in that regard it has not been a total loss. However this problem could be easily rememdied if the company would wax the string, or simply sand down the holes.

I would not buy this product knowing what I know now. I would look for another set of lacing beads.

I read the reviews and thought I'd buy it for my two-year old. Well, a week after I bought them, one of the wooden beads cracked so it's useless. The worst problem was trying to thread the lace through. It kept getting caught inside the bead because the company didn't sand the inside of the beads well enough. The lace kept catching on the wood. What a waste of money!

Our daughter loves to play with these lacing beads - they have been her favorite toy for quite some time now (she's 3 1/2 years old).
When we first received this item some of the holes were a bit difficult to lace through. We contacted the company (800 number of the box) and they explained to me that they corrected this problem, and they sent me a replacement set and it was PERFECT!

We couldn't be happier with both this purchase and the great customer service we received from Melissa & Doug. This item is just what any parent needs to help their child build valuable fine motor skills. A fantastic learning Toy!

My son who is four and my daughter who is two both love this toy. They line up the blocks, stack the blocks and lace them onto the strings. It's a wonderful learning toy. The only problem we had with it, was that the holes in the beads didn't seem properly cleaned out and they stuck on the laces. We took sandpaper to the insides of the beads, which helped, but the beads still don't slide on the laces like I would like them to. This hasn't stopped my kids from enjoying this toy, though.

These beads are very difficult for my daughter to string together because the string gets caught on the inside of the beads. The beads should be sanded down inside so the string cen be put through smoothly.

I was tickled to find a bead kit wit large enough beads for my 27 month old. He loves naming the colors and counting them. However, the insides of the beads are not sanded enough and get caught before you can even lace it through. I wrapped duct tape around the first inch and a half of string to he can at least get the bead on. I'll probably find a way to sand them down since it would be a bigger hassle to repackage it and send it back. I'll try a smaller, less fuzzy string first.
