Don't let the cuddly kitties put you off, this is one of the smartest, funniest, most engaging comics you will ever read. I myself was instanly hooked by the complex, endearing characters and the drop-dead gorgeous art. Without a doubt, this is one of the best web-produced comics out there today.

First of all I just want to say that Tracy is absolutely brilliant and I love Lackadaisy. In fact, when I bought this comic, I had already read it several times on her website, I was only buying it because I support her and I want to see her keep making more. I highly recommend anyone to go to her website (lackadaisycats.com) and read the comic; all of the characters are unique and memorable, the storyline is great, and the art is fantastic.

The only reason I gave this 3/5 stars is because the book itself was put together very poorly. I only had the comic for about 2 weeks, and the binding came loose and a bunch of the pages fell out (keep in mind I've opened it maybe 2 or 3 times; I've already read it all several times so I had no real reason to re-read it). I pretty much just kept it on my shelf for the most part, so there's no real way that I could have caused damage to the book. The pages just sort of fell out... Which was pretty disappointing.

I just want to state one more time... this has nothing to do with Tracy or Lackadaisy, it is a fantastic comic. In fact, I still recommend you buy this comic, it's very possible this was just a fluke and I got a bad copy. I'm just relating my experience so that maybe the publisher can make sure they are producing the comic in the quality it deserves.

Alright, so, normally I don't like graphic novels. I find them hurried. Like if it was an actual book it would be better. But LACKADAISY is not squished. Not in MY humble opinion, anyway. Gosh--it's perfect. The pacing is perfect, the characters are out of this world--you'll fall in love with them. The dialogue is fresh and clever, and the plot you'll just eat up. The art--wow. No one can draw expressions better than this author. Nobody. I actually found her on Deviant Art when she was writing an "how to draw expressions" tutorial. The reason she wrote it is because she's the best--and luckily she doesn't know it yet, because it was for free.

NOW CATS? You say. CATS. Why cats? Are you not going to buy it because the characters are fuzzy? I had the same thought, but put your prejudice of furries away for today, my friends. That thinking will get you nowhere. This book is not for your seven-year-old niece. It's for YOU, and you'll love it. If you don't get sucked into it in the first five pages, then there might be something majorly wrong with your funny-bone, and you should get x-rays.

Five stars, no question. Click the 'buy' button, and thank me later for the recommendation. :)

You must buy this book!
This is a story of Prohibition era Gangsters and Molls as told through cats.
It touches every single aspect of the genre right down to the Saloon keeper with a heart of gold.
The story is fast paced and fun. Filled with drama and humor, with the occasional pathos and unexpected twist.
But what really sells this is the phenomenal artwork. You will feel drawn right into every page. The art is sepia toned to give an old time photo feel to it, but it never looks fake. The backgrounds are right out of history and feel incredibly real. Each and every scene is flawless, and the character design will have you immersing yourself completely in this story about criminal cats.

If you are an art student looking to see how it's done, get this book. There are even extras in the back where the artist goes over character design.

All in all, the only flaw is that this is only volume one. Trust me, you will be eagerly awaiting volume two just as I am.

This is the best webcomic I've ever read. Hands down. The story is well-researched, funny, touching, terribly well written. The characters are lovable and relateable (mostly). And the art is just beyond words. The printed version of the book takes the web material from the first chapter, plus extras, and puts it all together into one sleek package which is still one of the nicest books in my comics collection.

If it was an option I would give this 4.5 stars, just because the print is a bit smaller than the art deserves. I don't know if there is any solution for this, since it was meant to be read on a big screen and sometimes you can't get around the physical limitations. That said, the book is of wonderful quality both in terms of the design and the materials and everything else. I love the use of spot UV on the book cover, it really classes it up. Also my fingers don't smudge the pages which is a big concern for me since I like my books looking pristine even after a reading. One review here mentions pages falling out, I think that might have been an issue with books from the first printing (you can tell which those were since the spine text was also printed in the reverse direction). Those books are no longer for sale though, and all the new ones/ the ones for sale via Amazon are through a better printer, so hopefully we can all enjoy your high-quality volume for years to come :)
