5.0 out of 5 stars One of the all-time great voices., November 29, 1999
This review is from: Lacy J. Dalton - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This is my third review of a Lacy J. Dalton album for Amazon.Com. at the risk of repetition, I will reiterate what Ive said before. Lacy j. is the most underatted, the most shamefully overlooked, and the least appreciated singer I know of.Lacy's voice just aches with tenderness, honesty and soul. Just listen to her beautiful reinterpretation of that old chestnut, The Tennesee Waltz. Lacy J. once claimed , in all seriousness, that she covered that song on orders from God. Listening to her, I believe it. Lacy J. turns it into a great blues song, a meditation on the pain and loss endemic to our human, mortal, condition, and our desperate longing for salvation:in short, a masterpiece by a near-genius. One only prays that somebody, somewhere will see fit to give this great lady the compilation album-or the record deal- she so richly deserves. All of her fans are crying out for it. I know I am. P.S..A message to the earler reviewer who was looking for "where the trade winds blow me". That is , in a fact, not a song title, but the opening lines to one of the songs on this album, the unforgettable, Taking It Easy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great example of modern Texas-style country, October 14, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Lacy J. Dalton - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Lacy J. Dalton has been writing and singing terrific country music for many years. This album reminds me of the Texas hill country and of small clubs in Austin, Santa Fe, or Tucson. Excellent ballads. 16th Avenue is one of her best songs ever with a good melody and really great lyrics. Crazy Blue Eyes and Whisper are two other excellent cuts and she does a terrific job on the old standard, Tennessee Waltz. All in all this is a great album for an evening in front of the fire.

5.0 out of 5 stars God bless Lacy, February 13, 2004

In the mid-eighties me and my friends were penniless nobodies in a forgotten corner of the country. But when we scraped together enough for a 6-pack and a dime we didn't need Casey Kasem or someone telling us to listen to "Joy Division" or "Culture Club" or some stupid California hair rock band. We listened to music that really lifted our spirits like Lacy J. Dalton's "16th Avenue". Where am I now? Mostly dimeless but no longer penniless, its still great to crack a 6-pack and listen to Lacy's greatest hits. God bless you Lacy.

I love anything from Lacy J I know the song is about 16th avenue in Nashville. She has a very throaty voice meaning it carries very well

5.0 out of 5 stars Here's some great country hits., June 20, 2010
This review is from: Lacy J. Dalton - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This is a nice greatest hits set of some of Dalton's best hits.
Here are 10 of her first 12 songs that charted between 1979 to 1983.
Two songs were skipped over --
"Hillbilly girl with the blues" 1980
"It's a dirty job" (with Bobby Bare) 1983.

Another noteable song of the same time period is "Wild turkey".
Although it is a B-side, it is one of Dalton's best.
This c.d. covers just under the first half of Dalton's hits.
Lacy J. went on to have 12 additional songs chart between 1983 and 1990,
six of which were top ten hits.

This collection is all origianl recordings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic singer with alot of soul., April 6, 1999

This is just a glimpse of the great talent Lacy J has. My favorite is "Everybody Makes Mistakes", you can just hear the heartaches of her life in this song. The same with "Losing Kind Of Love". My biggest wish is for a CD of Lacy's "Highway Diner" album. "Highway Diner" is an emotional album to listen to and, to me, the best showcase of her talent.

4.0 out of 5 stars A voice that sounds like it's been there and back, February 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Lacy J. Dalton - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I like Lacy because she sounds like she's lived the heartbreak lyrics instead of just singing them. Crazy Blue Eyes and 16th Avenue are simply great songs beautifully sung. I'd just like to hear her voice without the gloppy string arrangements she too often used.

I went to high school with Lacy J. Dalton in Bloomsburg, PA. She is as real as they come, and her "Greatest Hits" album is the genuine article--soulful, and full of heart. Thanks to Lacy for this gift to us all.

I bought both alblums, greatest Hits and best of the best. The CD's were of good quality and sound was of her good singing quality. I've seen quite a few music stars, but she left the largest impression on me live as she came out and sang. She has a voice that goes to your soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lacy J Dalton songs and the singer, June 14, 2001

Ian Crimp (Derby, West Aust. Australia) - See all my reviews

I first heard Lacy J whilst travelling around Tasmania and just kept playing the tape. It was a duo tape with Emmy Lou Harris on the other side. They are both fantastic but I liked the songs from Lacy best of all. Unfortunately the tape was later stolen and I have been looking for the song containing the lines "one of the unsatisfied " ever since. I think it was also the title of the track. She is one of the finest singers I have heard and yet relatively unknown in Australia, what a pity!
