5.0 out of 5 stars My Heartfelt Review for "The Ladder of the Soul", May 22, 2004

This review is from: The Ladder of the Soul - Improvisations for Relaxation, Meditation, & Integration (Audio CD)
I am continually amazed by the healing power of music. Especially harp music. As those who know me know, my healing from a debilitating stroke came about in large part due to the improvisational healing harp of one man: Paul Baker.

Mr. Baker is such a talented person. He could have chosen to record albums using his vast knowledge and technique on the large and impressive concert harp, piano, or organ. However, for posterity, he chose to record improvisations for healing on the smaller and more personal celtic harp.

How does one capture the essence of such music in words? His two albums, "The Tranquil Harp" and "The Ladder of the Soul" are groundbreaking in their simplicity and breadth. And each one has its own unique place in my life.

"The Tranquil Harp" helped me most in my physical healing. Its music is very basic, simple, and gentle. It has brought, and continues to bring, growth and strength to every part of my physical being. To play it is to bathe in regeneration and light.

"The Ladder of the Soul" continues this healing on the emotional and spiritual planes. It connects our essence to the divine in such a way that we emerge purer and more aware of our true being and purpose in this life. This is real health. Divine health. What a gift to be brought to us by one man. This album is so aptly named as it proves that the harp truly is "the ladder between earth and heaven," connecting us to the divine safely and lovingly.

Thank you, Mr. Baker, for sharing yourself in such a way that allows all of us to unfold in ourselves and in the world with true happiness and peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soul Connections, January 31, 2002

I thought that the previous CD that I owned by Paul Baker was some of the best Harp music I had heard. I was surprised to purchase this album and find an even more powerful connection to peace and balance as a result of listening. I now use this CD almost exclusively when I work with new clients (I used to use Paul's last CD for this purpose). The music is immediately calming and at the same time seems to bring a sense of peace that is quite delightful. I gave a copy of the Tranqui Harp to UCLA for use by their Oncology Outpatient clinic, and intend to do the same with this CD. In particular, it provides the perfect background music with which to help individuals explore highly charged and personal issues. I'm anxious to see what Paul Baker comes out with next and have become a real fan...he has magic fingers that remind me of Harpo Marx!

The sounds of the Celtic Harp as played by Paul Baker surrounds me and fill me with peace. Each note deepens the experience, each affirmation creates another dimension of musical connection to the soul. Paul Baker is a master with the harp; his improvisations have a depth that is haunting. Using the music, the affirmations, the colors of the various notes results in a truly remarkable experience. There is only peace and calmness when The Ladder of the Soul is playing.

Paul Baker's Ladder of the Soul is one of the most deeply moving, relaxing and healing CDs I have ever worked with. I was so impressed with this CD, that I purchased the rights from Mr. Baker to use several of the tracks for the background music on my deep relaxation therapeutic CD. Not only do my clients rave about this beautiful harp music, but also the clients of the many mental health professionals that have purchased them as well. Paul Baker's music truly touches the soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Incredible Album by Paul Baker, August 22, 2001

The first time I heard this album, I was in my car on the way to work. It was a packed freeway and I didn't care in the least. In fact, I was half wishing for a traffic jam so I could spend more time basking in the beautiful music. Each track was deliciously different. The music felt both calming and energizing at the same time --- it had a healing quality. You'll love it.

Lovely music, not only played with great skill by Paul Baker, but also music whose heart and sincerity of compassion shines through. Not overly simplistic like some massage music, but rather with real musical interest and beauty.

5.0 out of 5 stars An emotional massage for the body., October 10, 2001

The Ladder of the Soul was and is the perfect antidote to the stress surrounding us now. The moment I put this in my CD player I was flooded with a sense that all is well. I stopped thinking of the million things that I have to do, and I felt my spine... relax! It was as if a nimble angel was soothing me with tender spiritual and physical healing. That night I put this on the CD player in my bedroom so I would fall asleep to the powerful, but gentle rhythms and tones. I slept blissfully and awoke with a much brighter outlook for the day ahead. For me the music ebbs and flows in sync with my breathing. But aside from all that, this is such a beautiful sounding series of compositions. Forget all my musings and just enjoy it. And possibly... you just might feel better, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finding Inner Peace, August 20, 2001

The world sometimes seems to be spinning back toward the "chaos" envisioned in Genesis. Here is the antidote. A terrific display of artistry on the celtic harp by Paul Baker (even better than his first CD), a lovely and refreshingly serene sequence of moods, and a profound, real connection to our universal subconsciousness are what this music is all about. It's indispensable for anyone in the healing arts, massage therapists, spa directors, as well as for the John or Jane Q. Public who just want a moment's repose from their hectic lives.
