4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, September 29, 2001

This review is from: Ladies of the Chorus [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I remember literally calling in to work one day, because this movie was on. I missed about the first 15 minutes of it, and I just had to see what happened. I think Marilyn Monroe looked stunning, and I am surprised it wasn't a phenominal success. The movie itself has a wonderful-romantic story line to it. It's one of my favorite classic movies by Miss Monroe.
The Story is about a Mother and Daughter dancers. Marilyn becames, forgive me if i dont' spell it correctly the "Burless" Queen and she meets a man who falls head over heels in love with her. Marilyns Mom is worried and confronts the boy that if he wants to marry her to please discuss it with his mother, so there isn't any problems. If you want to hear what happens, I reccomend you rent or buy this video. Its a wonderful-witty little film that I think is wonderful!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best of Marilyn Monroe, April 28, 2002

This is one of Marilyn's first movies and yet she had the main part. She was so young in this movie and looking her best. She did a wonderful job and she sang so beautifully. As always her movies are great but I would have to put this up there with the Prince and The Showgirl and Bus Stop which in my opion were her best movies. She outshined everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 STARS FOR MARILYN - NOT THE MOVIE!, April 30, 2000
By
S.G. (jersey shore) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ladies of the Chorus [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Any serious Marilyn fan will and should have this movie in their collection. It's not a very good movie, at times incredibly irritating (that guy and little boy with the weird speechpattern) and some of the musical numbers later in the film are BAD! But luckily Marilyn's performance stands out WAY above the rest of the forgettable cast (no offense) and the movie is worth watching just for that. Marilyn shows great musical and performing talent and her great beauty is already evident at her young age of 22. So the 5 Stars are for Marilyn! Watch the first half of the movie and ditch the rest.

after being a marilyn fan for well, more than half my life, i finally got to see this movie! i couldnt find it at any video stores, i was just lucky AMC decided to show it last thursday and i taped it. this isn't marilyns' finest hour(literally, the movie was an hour long!), but she looked so beautiful, and her charming singing voice and sweet sincerity in her acting makes this movie worth looking at. It was a cute short story which i was finally able to see. i recommend it to all marilyn fans..everywhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars Look at All the Marilyn!, January 19, 2009
This review is from: Ladies of the Chorus [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Ladies of the Chorus is a B-movie, a breezy programmer about a chorus girl who falls in love with a wealthy fan. Peggy Martin (Marilyn Monroe) and her mother Mae (Adele Jergens) are members of a chorus line in a second rate show. Mae has been involved since she was a young girl herself, and now wears a blonde wig to hide her greying hair. Her daughter gets a big break when the star of the show quits, and soon Peggy is adored by attractive men in the audience. One of them is Randy Carroll (Rand Brooks), a man with enough money to buy Peggy orchids every day without leaving a note with his name on it. Of course, she finds out who he is and the two are on the road to romance. But can the classes mix?

An enjoyable film with some good songs, ("Every Baby Needs a Da Da Daddy" and "Anyone Can See I Love You") this movie is most notable for its budding starlet, Marilyn Monroe. Unlike most of her early roles, this one is rather large albiet hollow. She is gorgeous throughout and sings rather well; no wonder, since she fell in love with her voice coach during the shooting. Brooks of Gone With the Wind fame gives a giddy performance as her love interest and Jergens plays the motherly role well, although she is much too young for the part.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable 22-year old MM shines in rare B movie!!, August 6, 1998
This review is from: Ladies of the Chorus [VHS] (VHS Tape)
A gem!! This little rarity is the type of film that makes a vcr worth its weight in gold. LADIES OF THE CHORUS (1949) almost never plays on television, and this early B film was the very young Marilyn's (just 22 when she made it) only starring role before 1953!! She is adorable in this film - I never heard of a Monroe fan who didn't love this rare early glimpse of her. It's not that great of a film but seeing our lovely young legend this early is worth double the price of the video!! END

5.0 out of 5 stars "Ladies of the Chorus" is no "cheapie" film, December 28, 1999
This review is from: Ladies of the Chorus [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Norma Jean in all her sincerity, pre-plastic surgery and dental work, I think! A charming story with song and dance. Mute it at your next party and the images will intrigue people. Turn on the sound and hear the story. Picture entertainment c. 1949. This film is about rights of class, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Glimpse Into A Young and Stunning Marilyn Monroe, February 4, 2007
This review is from: Ladies of the Chorus [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I was so excited to purchase this from a seller off of Amazon. I have been a MM fan since I was 9 (I'll be 36 this year) and have never seen this. Until I started looking for it, I didn't realize that it was out of print in the US on VHS and only available on Region 2 (Europe) DVD. I have a great VHS copy and now consider it a cherished collectible of Marilyn. I watched it for the first time today and loved it. Marilyn is so young, innocent and beautiful. She just radiates. This will give any fan a glimpse into a young Marilyn Monroe, just as she was leaving the persona of Norma Jeane and finding herself. This is well worth the investment for any Marilyn fan's collection, if you can find a copy grab it. It was a B rated movie but still charming and fun to watch. I literally welled up watching how gorgeous Marilyn was and seeing her young and fresh talent.
