Book Description

February 15, 2005
This collection of applique patterns features charming ladies of an earlier time. Capturing the romance of long skirts, pretty bonnets, and flowing ribbons, the author depicts the ladies enjoying a game of croquet, a fun day of shopping, a picnic by the lake, and many other outings. Place Bonnet Girls in settings of your own choosing, move them from one setting to another or group them together to illustrate a specific event. Dresses, skirts, hats, bonnets, hair, arms, and hands can all be exchanged to create the positions and actions needed to fit a particular scene. Prop patterns are also provided to enhance each setting. Among the charming pieces, you will find lanterns, shopping bags, mittens, shawls, candles, and parasols.

Editorial Reviews

Review

This books provides a highly recommended sequel to Scott's prior Bonnet Girls, using old-fashioned full-skirted girls to provide appliques, which are whimiscal and fun. 35 doll patterns provided herein may be used to dress up events and provide paper patterns for fabric results. -Midwest Book Review

About the Author

Some of Helen Scott's earliest memories are of playing under her grandmother's large quilting frames. There she worked on her quilts and those made by her daughters. When Helen started quilting in 1960, she chose applique. Having painted with oils, pastels, and watercolors for many years, Helen found that applique was like painting with cloth. She started teaching embroidery applique and quilting classes in 1982.

This is a delightful quilting book with ladies of the past. If reminds me of the paper dolls I use to dress as a young girl. I have wanted to purchase this book for a long time and now that I have I am not disapointed. I can hardly wait to make a quit using these lovey girls, and all the other added ideas to combine them in the life of yesterday.

this book was in excellent condition. however it did have that remainder pen mark on the edge if that matters to you. that does not affect the book if you ask me it just lowers the price. i have wanted this book for a long time and i am very pleased with it. the patters are nice and the graphics are easy to copy out. a good quilter could follow this book well to make a nice quilt. if you get this one save up for bonnet girls patterns of the past too please. you will be happy you did!! the price was great and the quality mint. hope this helps you decide.

4.0 out of 5 stars good but not great, February 16, 2012

Ladies Day Out was the second of the two Bonnet Girls books that I ordered. I feel that the other book, Patterns of the Past, has much better girls. The Ladies Day book does have good scenes and many extras. The patterns are all clear and well laid out. If you are an appliquer or an embroidier this would be a nice choice and you would probably also like the other book in the series.
