5.0 out of 5 stars 'Allo Welly! Great Multi-Purpose Work Boots From A Self-Admitted Shoe Horse
As a point of disclosure - I did not purchase my Docs through Amazon.

I purchased these boots about 3 years ago when they were fairly new to the US DM line-up. My impressions:

As some have mentioned they are no longer sporting the MADE IN ENGLAND verbiage on the soles. That is a slight bummer for me. The fit was perfect for me; sort of close...

2.0 out of 5 stars What a Disappointment!
Doc Martens now come from China?!? What happened to the company pride of manufacturing in England? They definitely compromised quality for a cheaper make. The insoles no longer provide comfort and support. The leather is less supple. Also the sizes are a bit different, so obviously they have different tooling (China-made probably). What a disappointment!

I purchased these boots about 3 years ago when they were fairly new to the US DM line-up. My impressions:

As some have mentioned they are no longer sporting the MADE IN ENGLAND verbiage on the soles. That is a slight bummer for me. The fit was perfect for me; sort of close to the familiar bouncy sole of days gone by; pretty flexible for a SC (Steel Cap) boot (these are ASTM rated); great color of brown that goes with a variety of work and casual wear (I wear mine with jeans more often than not).

Over the years the boots have weathered a bunch of wear and a little abuse and happily nothing negative to report: no sole separation, no premature wear, the SC is not popping out of the leather, etc.

Please look for my 'Before' and 'After' cleaning pictures at the top of this page.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT a REAL Work Boot!, August 21, 2008
If you work in a real environment that requires the DR.MArtin boot as a work boot please rethink your purchase. DR.Martin is flying solely on the name Dr. Martin. They are now made in china and Dr. Martin does not stand by their product. My husband is a welder/fitter at a power plant, the average work boot lasts him at least 6 months. Even a pair of Wal-Mart boots would last him longer than these! Having experience with DR. Martin I tried to urge my husband not to buy them. I had martin boots with padding before, within 2 months it ripped and worn thin. No surprise to me when the sole started coming apart at the bottom of the padding and the stitching ripped loose. Sure they were comfortable but they were very poorly made to be labeled as a work boot. No boot over 100.00 should fall apart 20 days after purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great boot at first does not last long. sizes not consistent, September 16, 2010

Ordered the size 12 boot after using a size 13 that stretched out too much. The size 12 arrived and was closer to a 10 1/2. Ordered a second pair in 14 and fits perfectly. Doc Marten boots seem to change their sizing standards over the past few years. Otherwise, after a month of hard use in the Arabian desert they still look like new with a splash of water in the sink.

They broke in quickly like all dpc marten boots and were form fitted after a couple days use. Never have had a blister or sore foot with these. I would use these at the gym and for running if I didn't look silly doing it. They are more comfortable and have more support than any gym shoe I have used.

For a long day trudging around a hot dusty yard, or hours driving a semi truck, or going on a trek thru the mountains, these are well worth it.

PS look for the made in UK doc martens, the leather and sewing is much better than the Chinese made ones. I think the UK made doc martens have the word "legacy" in the product description.

Update April 20.2011

Have used these boots since October 2010. 7 months. Stitching is coming out, the leather loop on the top has broke on one boot cause the stitching was faulty. The soles on both shoes are coming apart from the shoes. Insole wore out in a month, the inside of the heel where my foot meets the back of the boot has bulged out at the back and split the leather. The boots are no longer comfortable and springy.

Disappointed in the quality of Doc Marten. I had other pairs of doc martens shoes that lasted much much longer than this. This is the second pair of bad doc martens in a row. They used to be a good shoe when made in UK now just cheap Chinese junk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Boot - Watch your size, January 22, 2012
After having this for a period of four years, I figured now was a good time to review this boot. Overall, in spite of the few flaws, I would give these full stars. I've worn them both indoors and outdoors in extreme environments all around. They pulled me through the wilderness of Japan, the beaches of California, and through the snow of the eastern mountains. They are warm, sturdy, leakproof, and comfortable (after breaking in!)

Overall, I would rate this as a great choice in sturdy active footwear. There are a few things to watch out for, a few positive aspects straight from the box, and some aspects that take a while to show themselves.

Major issue: Make sure you know your sizes and the appropriate conversion for UK sizes. I ordered mine according to the main chart, but they were too small for me and hurt when wearing the first few weeks. I continued to break them in and over a period of several months they did conform to my feet and fit nicely. If your ok with breaking them in, then the fit after is very comfortable. Otherwise I would recommend a half size over, but be warned that they will be loose.

Out of the box, the boot has a nice feel to it. They are not too heavy, quality leather with solid stitching all around. Inside, the soles are made of a slightly flimsy material, but this can be resolved but changing them out with a quality insole. The steel toes are solid, with no cutting in factor. The boot can be slightly tough to pull on and off; however, I prefer that over a loose fitting boot.

After time, there appears to be a major flaw. The stitching on the pull on straps came loose, eventually pulling off all together. Given the snugness to pull on, this becomes an issue.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very comfortable and great value., December 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These Dr. Martens Steel toe boots are very nice. They are comfortable for standing and walking for long periods of time. My only complaint is the sole of the boot is not that durable in high temp. area. I am learning to welding and I made the mistake of step on some hot slag which melted a small hole in the sole of the boot. Beside this I would recommend this boot for any conditions but except for high temps are involved.

4.0 out of 5 stars Practical, comfortable and look cool., November 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered these boots because my desk job required me to visit an industrial site. Thus, I had to ditch my high heels and done some PPE. I probably could have gotten by with something cheaper, but I am really glad I got these. First of all, they are super comfortable. After 18 hours of wearing them my feet felt great. They keep my feet completly dry from ickiness I had to walk through. I would reccomend some good socks that are breathable to combat sweat. I give them four stars because they are kind of hard to get on. But other than that they serve their purpose and look cool too.

2.0 out of 5 stars most uncomfortable work boots ever, June 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was reluctant to buy foot ware on line, but retailers don't sell pull on type work boots in my area so I decided to take a chance with Dr. Martens as they were once known for comfort and quality. After receiving a pair of shoes which in no way resembled what I ordered the boots that I did order finally arrived about a month after I placed my order. I should have returned them immediately because the right boot was slightly smaller than the left, but because it was such a hassle getting them and because boots have to be "broken in," I decided to keep them. Now I own a pair of nice looking Wellingtons that I cannot wear for more than an hour before my feet start seriously hurting. Nice work boots if you only work an hour a day. I am back to wearing my 10 year old Chippewas which are still comfortable and give good arch support.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love these boots, May 4, 2011
I''ve been wearing Docs for about 20 years now. I only wore 10 holes - 14 hole until I found these bad boys about 5 or 6 years ago. I am just breaking my third pair in during that time. I ride a motorcycle and the sole holds up pretty good. The steel toe is a must in any boot period. These boots deliver on all fronts. It was like discovering Docs all over again. Dig.
