Couldn't Put It Down!,
By
This review is from: The Ladies Farm (Hardcover)
The cover and title of this book caught my eye on the new book shelf at my local library. I started reading after work and couldn't put it down. The plot is ingenious and the story fast-paced. I fell in love with the characters right off the bat and I wanted to immediately call The Ladies Farm and make myself a reservation! A wonderful, delightful first book. I hope you're working on your next one, Ms. Litman!

Funny, Bittersweet, Touching,
By Eva (US) - See all my reviews

This book was a little on the predictable side, but Litman managed to keep me interested in all the characters right up to the end. The book had all the right ingredients- humor, sadness, and happiness. She's a promising author- I can' wait to read more of her books.

Wit, Fun and Foolishness,
By Mamalinde "mamalinde" (Dallas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Ladies Farm (Hardcover)
The Ladies Farm is definitely a place for a Mamalinda, where wit and fun mix with true friendship, and a good time is had by all who can deal with it. Some of the dialogue is magnificient, though the characters and plot do rather muddle at times, and the ending is rather too much all at once (but then life can be too). The wedding was absolutely exquisite -- and Rita my favorite character! If this author keeps trying, she could be the Fannie Flagg of Texas!

Fast paced and wonderful!,

Although predictable it was a great read and unforgetable. Friendships are the best and these ladies made sure that they were there for each other and just goes to show what we will forget and forgive in the end eh!

I becamed consumed with each character. In between readings I thought about the characters and imagined what would happen next. It made me laugh and cry. I was dissappointed when I had no more pages to read, I miss the characters, they were all so charming. I'm eager for a sequal.

Boring, improbable story, undeveloped characters...,
By Momoftwosons (Upstate New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Ladies Farm (Hardcover)
...This book was primarily boring. The characters are poorly developed - often changing personalities rather drastically (like when Della suddenly becomes a "wisecracker" half way through the book). The premise is ridiculous. Would you turn up on your (rather distant) friends' doorsteps terminally ill and expect them to take care of you? The farm itself (which is supposed to be a B&B) is never fully included in the story - it seems just an uninteresting and implausable place. I also always resent it when adulterous relationships are glorified and glamorized. Although nearly everyone had slept with this guy, Richard, they all obsess endlessly about him. GET REAL! He sounds like a jerk. I was glad I didn't buy this book (took it out from the library).

Needed Better Editing!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Ladies Farm (Paperback)
I found this book virtually unreadable. It was filled with Creative Writing 101 clunkers. For example, the lead character sets up the back story by "reminding herself" of things, "lecturing herself" about things, "scolding herself" about things, etc. etc. Characters rarely say things - they "continue," "snap," "rejoin," "whisper," "recall," "protest,"sigh," "correct," venture," "observe" "advise" "announce" "repeat"- well, you get the idea. Stomachs lurch and eyes leak. I'm sure the author worked very hard - where was her editor?
