3.0 out of 5 stars Okay
This book was okay. All of the women had secrets that they were keeping from each other. It kind of reminded me of the tv show Girlfriends. The author used "diva" and "witches" so much I thought I was going to go crazy. Other than that, it was an okay, easy read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeping Secrets, February 13, 2007
This review is from: Ladies' Night Out (Mass Market Paperback)
Brought together in college, from different walks of life, four women became sisters, divas, friends for life. Meshell, Lexie, Tonya, and Tracee are single and successful in their career choices, but missing something. Electa Rome Parks' Ladies' Night Out is told from the first person's perspective. Each one of these women has a voice, but they do not always use it when they should.

Alexis is a psychologist and a preacher's daughter. She has an aura of innocence left from her upbringing. Even though she has had sex, she has never experienced the ultimate big "O". After one of their monthly ladies night, and everyone had a juicy story to share, she was missing something and was determined to find it. But would she find what she is seeking and still be safe?

Meshell, the ADA, comes from a family of lawyers, but is living on the edge. She thought that she had left this part of her life back at college, but she is quickly learning that she is out of control. Her drug of choice is very dangerous. Being in the career field that she is in, she should know this, but she does not care. Or does she?

Tonya comes from a family that was very poor, and vowed to herself never to have to work two jobs and do without when she became an adult. Tonya is a wine buyer, so she gets to travel all over tasting and buying wine. Even though she is very successful in her career, she still wants the American dream. How far will she go to get what she is trying to attain?

Tracee is now a beautiful college English professor. When she was growing up, she was an overweight teen. Right before going to college she had a wakeup call and that helped her to lose the weight that once held her back. Now she is flaunting it in ways that may one day cost her something very important, her life.

These four women are so close to each other but yet so far away from the true identity of each other. Can they still be friends once their secrets are found out? Will this be their last Ladies' Night Out?

I recommend this to a reader from all walks of life. This is truly a read that everyone that picks it up will enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 4.5) - A girl's best friend, February 9, 2007

This review is from: Ladies' Night Out (Mass Market Paperback)
LADIES' NIGHT OUT is more than just one night out on the town - it is a journey of four girlfriends as they balance their careers with the pursuit of happiness. Friends since college, Lexie, Meshell, Tracee and Tonya couldn't be closer, yet, each woman harbors secrets that remain closely guarded.

At one of their monthly meetings, Meshell poses a question to the group that sets Lexie on a risqué mission to conquer personal uncharted territory. Will this preacher's kid be able to step out of her comfort zone to realize true gratification?

Meshell is the seemingly fearless prosecutor who is haunted by the stress and violence associated with her job. The manner in which she chooses to cope sets her on a path of self-destruction. With the help of her friends, will she be able to overcome this negative behavior?

A connoisseur of the finer things in life, Tonya lives a lavish lifestyle that is afforded to her as head buyer for a wine distributor. Not always a candidate for the lifestyles of the rich and famous, memories of her disenchanted childhood fuel her desire for the excellent things in life. However, what price is she willing to pay to reach the top?

As the free spirit of the group, Tracee likes to have a good time and her all-the-time party mode concerns her friends. When one of her antics spells personal danger, will Tracee be compelled to clean up her act?

LADIES NIGHT OUT is a sizzling tale of true, nonjudgmental, long-standing friendship. It is a refreshing tale that neatly intertwines the lives of four professional women. Using detailed emotional scenarios ranging from tear-jerking to tantalizing scenes that sear off the pages, Ms. Parks is to be commended for this page-turning read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexy..., July 28, 2007
This review is from: Ladies' Night Out (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was definately one of her sexiest novels to date. I did find myself comparing it to 'These are my confessions' though. Maybe it's because I read it not to long ago or because 'Ladies' Night Out' was like a confessional for these women. I could have also used a little more story/plot to get me to and from the next sex scene! (Wait... did I just say that??) LOL!!

These women definately had some pretty interesting sex lives and some pretty interesting secrets!! I was wondering how everything was going to go down at the end. I can definately see a sequel if Electa chooses to do so. Bottom line, this book is worth your time. It's a fast and sexy read with not a whole lot of thinking needed to get through it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ladies Night OUt, March 5, 2007
This review is from: Ladies' Night Out (Mass Market Paperback)
Get ready for the "black" Sex In The City! Ladies' Night Out is an enticing and eye-opening tale of four girlfriends with brains, beauty and secrets.

Lexie, a highly successful psychologist and a preacher's kid, explores her wilder side after one of the group's monthly meetings. Meshell, the bold and direct prosecutor who succumbs to the pressures of her job and turns down a negative path. Tonya's rich and famous lifestyle turns out to be just a shield for her real childhood experiences and she must finally decided how much further she'll go to keep up the charade. Tracee is the carefree, life of the party who gets herself into a situation she might not be able to get out of.

Each friend has embarked on new issues and when things become too tough to bear they rely on each other.

The writing was crisp and the story well executed. Ladies Night Out was a true-to-life tale of four friends, loyalty and love. These women were professional and seemingly had it all, yet none of that compared to the bond they shared. A wonderful journey highlighted by steamy scenes and emotional turmoil. A definite must read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Ladies' Night Out by Electa Rome Parks: An PeoplewholoveGoodBooks Review, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Ladies' Night Out (Mass Market Paperback)
Lexie, MeShell, Tonya, and Tracee are best friends who are single, successful, and beautiful women. Friends since college, but more like sisters, they get together once a month to hang out and catch up on each other's lives. One night MeShell asks the question,"What's the freakiest thing you've ever done?" A simple question, yet the answers may change their friendship as each woman is hiding a secret. Secrets that will either destroy their bond or bring them closer together.

Lexie decides to embark on an no-strings attached "sexual" relationship--only problem is she meets the man online and begins to develop feelings.

Tonya is having an affair with her boss, who happens to be very married.

Meshell knows what she wants and is not afraid to go after it, but when she goes too far, will she be able to pull herself back?

Tracee is attracted to a man she meets in the park but will he be interested in her OR what he saw her doing?

Ladies Night Out by Electa Rome Parks is a wonderful story about the bonds of friendship. She once again tackles an issue not discussed in the black community--black women and their sexuality. Compelling characters, and a sexy storyline that is going to have you thinking and talking long after you put the book down! Ladies Night Out is going to make for some very interesting discussions. 4.0 out of 5 stars Naughty, Nice, and Nasty!, January 8, 2007
This review is from: Ladies' Night Out (Mass Market Paperback)
It's not uncommon for a group of girls to congregate and spend time together for a night of fun. In Electa Rome Parks' newest book, LADIES' NIGHT OUT, four girlfriends find time to do just that in the pursuit of happiness. We find Lexie, Meshell, Tracee and Tonya, four distinct personalities with one thing in common - finding the least common denominator that wouldn't throw a wrench into their desires to be independently happy. The gist of this story centers on the premise that happiness is fleeting...or is it? The plot thickens and gives the story substance as each woman harbors individual nuances and secrets that remain the genesis of their pursuits. It all started at one of their monthly meetings with, Meshell articulating a somewhat grandiose query to incite sensibilities for action. Lexi, taking the bait, sets out on a daring quest to appease nagging concerns about her sexuality. Brought up in a sheltered environment as a preacher's kid could prove to be much more than she bargained for.

Meshell, embellished with verve and the confidence of her mettle as a sassy prosecuto, is outspoken an adheres to anonymity where sex is concerned. Readers will surely recognize the author's penchant to portray this character as someone identifiable by how stress of being overworked can be associated within the workplace...and because of it, gives Meshell substance in telling her story. I liked the way she chose to handle adversity amid her friends' meddlesome ways. Tonya, with overtones of a Diva on the move, loves and lives for the moment. Her lavish materialistic lifestyle affords her status that seemingly gives her standing among the group. As in life, there tend to be much more beneath the surface that has greater bearing on what is perceived to be status quo, and that can be attributed to blasé if not embittered upbringing. This shortcoming gives rise to her relentless desire to excel. I would readily ask -- to what extent would she be compelled to traverse in achieving it? Now comes Tracee, liberal to the heart and with an `anything goes' attitude spiked with that good-timey feel that exudes living for the moment. It's this carefree attitude that keeps her friends on pins and needles. So much so that she embarks on an ironic escape that flavors this part of the story with panache.

LADIES NIGHT OUT is a fun read where page-turning delight gives four daring friends a chance to revel in taking chances to fulfill notions of fun. They think they know to what extent each would go to pursue happiness, and it's this boldness that they extract that makes this novel believable. I loved the way the author gave each character the mannerisms that seem to mirror idiosyncratic ways that are so common in our world today among friends. The scenes are merited with contrasting value and tones for colorful interludes. How can you not revel at how sexual innuendo is deposited here for interaction? All you'd have to do is buy into Electa's imagery where a fling with a firefighter is met while surfing the net; what about wild exhibitionist streaks and dreams of being a pleasure principal for the right guy; or, having an affair with your married boss; then there's the other things that happen when the four of them relate their first person narratives for persuasive personification. This is an excellent read...one where you'd be readily recommend this book to others as I have. Read it and revel in Electa Rome Parks joining that elitist circle of writers!
