What a beautiful book with lovely pictures throughout.
Suzanne Tran
This book is not for beginners and is well suited for those with some pastry experience or who possess patience as pastry is very specific.

I'm not yet sure how good the recipes are, but I can say this is one of the most beautiful books I've ever seen.

This book is more of a piece of art or a beautiful jewel rather than a book I would want to have on my kitchen counter next to my Kitchenaid full of buttercream. I bought this for my wife. The recipes are well written clear and presented in cups and grams. I do suggest one buys a scale and uses the metric grams rather our silly American cups which are inaccurate. This book is not for beginners and is well suited for those with some pastry experience or who possess patience as pastry is very specific. If you happen to get to Paris be absolutely certain to try Lauduree's blueberry tea.

Before I even get started, I have to give fair-warning of my infatuation with this book, not for just its contents, but for the fact that everything surrounding this book, just oozes the romance of Paris, and it will completely embrace hopeless romantics, such as myself, and the rest of the Francophiles in the world.

While I know that Paris isn't the only city in France, just as New York isn't the only city in the United States, I have to admit when one thinks of France, it is an automatic thought process to think Paris. That being said, "Laduree" is one of the reasons that Paris has been given this geographic pedestal.

The joy, and the reason for above warning of infatuation, began when the book arrived at my doorstep. For those unfamiliar with Laduree, it is a pastel-colored bakery/tea salon, and its trademark is the soft, sherbert colors of its walls and papers, and presentations of its baked goods (but goods which now extend to personal luxury products as well). First of all, this surprisingly heavy book is encased in a lovely pistachio green box printed with a raspberry print. Once you lift up the case cover, you are greeted with a sheet of a pale plum tissue paper that wraps the book like a light shawl on a somewhat cool spring evening.

The covers of this gem are suede-like, and in the same charming pastel green color. This fact helps you to be impressed by the embossed gold print on the cover, with the same gold gilding found on the top and sides of the pages, thereby making me ever so gently remove it from its tissue cradle. This particular version has been translated into English though you can purchase the French version if you desire.

It's a beautiful little book -- a great gift for someone who is familiar with Laduree. The colors, the packaging, etc will transport you back to Laduree in Paris.

My only problem with the book is the lack of detailed instructions. So if you're looking for the magic method for creating the perfect macaron -- this isn't the book. The ingredients are there -- but not sure fire techniques. There's a suggestion that if your macaron doesn't turn out perfectly - don't worry. Right! I am an obsessed macaron maker and that suggestion will not do!

But that said, it sure is a pretty book and it has a lot, a lot of recipes - there has to be something there to peak your interest. And if you've been lucky enough to visit the Laduree stores/restaurants in Paris, then you'll be happy to have the book in your collection. I am.

I look forward to trying some the recipes -- but if I have a question on technique -- I know I'll have to look elsewhere.

I bought this book to add to my ever-growing cookbook collection. I work as a chef and have done some pastry work, but have few good pastry cookbooks, so I thought this would be a great addition. I was a bit underwhelmed though.

Firstly, this book is awkwardly small. I've never seen another professional cookbook this size. Secondly, while others heap praises upon the padded, velvety cover, I found it impractical and a bit silly. It attracts grease and means you'll need to photocopy or write down recipes to use, rather than cook out of the book. Thirdly, I found the collection of recipes rather disappointing for an acclaimed Parisian pastry shop. I not only expected more in quantity, but more in creativity. There wasn't much here that I haven't seen elsewhere.

If you want a cute little pastry book to sit on your end table or in your breakfast nook, this may be it. Or if you're a passionate fan of Laduree, then you'd better get it. Otherwise, for the price, I'd skip it.

I bought this book in particular to learn to make macarons. Something I'm aware takes sweat, tears, practice, practice, practice. BUT I think the recipes in this book can be helped if they were more specific about the preparation of ingredients, the way things should look before you move onto the next step (in particular the meringue). I think that you could find a more efficient macaron recipe on the internet honestly. The pastries in this book however aren't to be missed. They are divine and not heartbreaking as far as preparation and outcome of the dish. BUT if you are like me and are looking to buy this book to crack the secrets of the macaron, save yourself some tears and time and look up a reliable source on the internet, especially one that is accompanied by a video.
