2.0 out of 5 stars Unusual Regency premise quickly falls flat....., October 8, 2007
This review is from: Lady Alex (Mass Market Paperback)
what started out as a unique storyline-an American man who owns a plantation in Australia, is in need of a housekeeper-goes to the local womens prison to hire one and finds the heroine there, who states that she's an English noblewoman who's been falsely arrested.

The fault with the book arrives when the heroine does. It may be because I recently saw an excellent film about this same subject of English prisoners being some of the first settlers The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant-but after seeing the truly horrific straits these female prisoners go through to get to Australia, the heroine, Alex's haughty, diva, and downright bratty attitude was so implausible that it ruined the entire book. If the author wanted an accurate portrayal of the period and in this instance, the heroine would have been almost kissing the hero's feet just for getting her out of the prison!

My advice-skip it.
1.5 stars for a pretty cover.
