"Hugo In Cement",
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lady in Cement - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
"Lady In Cement," the second and last of Sinatra's "Tony Rome" films was a box office disaster (see my review of the film posted on Amazon a few weeks ago) and helped CEMENT the end of Frank's feature film career (he would not make another movie for two years, the truly awful "Dirty Dingus McGee" which makes "Lady" look like "Citizen Kane")
The film's soundtrack, with music by the late Hugo Montenegro, is vintage, late 1960's kitsch...lots of electric guitars,"Tiajuana" style brass effects and a male "wah wah" chorus tossed in for good measure. It's as if Montenegro knew he had thin movie material to work with and overwrote his score to compensate--Gordon Douglas directed the car chase scene, for example, with so little zest, that Montenegro's music becomes more of a neccessity than just background. Outstanding cuts "Tony's Theme" "Lady In Cement" and the truly haunting "Kit" (recalling Raquel Welch's bikini-clad opening scene in which she says to a semi-leering Sinatra "Do I scream 'rape' now or wait and phone in a complaint?" The film itself was pure 100% Sinatra in every way imaginable so it's curious that anything remsembling FS is missing from the soundtrack--even Nancy Sinatra's "Tony Rome" which opened the first film, is not reprised here...it's possible that Sinatra knew he had a stiff on his hands and stayed as far away from the post production as possible. The CD, a British Import, from Harkit records contains 3 bonus tracks: alternate versions of the title theme, "Tony's Theme" and an on set radio interview with Dan Blocker and Raquel Welch, a relic that's worth the price of the disc alone. As a longtime Sinatra fan and one who always got a kick of the film's cheesy badness, I have wanted a copy of the soundtrack for years....thanks to Amazon's limitless sources I was able to track it down from a British company called CD-Zone which has the disc shipped to me from the UK in record time... Its' worth noting, as a companion piece, "Lady In Cement" is seeing it's first domestic DVD released on May 24th.

Miami Cool, Montenegro Meltdown,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lady in Cement - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This is a great soundtrack to anyone who is a fan of Hugo Montengro. Montenegro is doing some of his best work here. The rambling extas with Dan Blocker and Raquel Welch are somthing to be heard once and then skipped over. The Shark is in my opinion one of Montengro's finest works.
I love it. Buy now and be in Miami tonight!
