Smaller than expected,

Although I was very happy to get this book, I was a bit disappointed by it's size. The other book I ordered at the same time, Lady Cottington's Fairy Album, was the size I was expecting (almost coffee book size, with fewer pages). This book was pocket sized. Although the condition was even better than they said, it was not what I expected. And if I had spent more on it, I would have been upset. Both books were the same price, and neither specified size. I was going on what I remembered the books being when I had seen them years ago. Also, 'Barnes and Nobles' is printed on the spine, making me think this was a special pocket size reprint because I believe it was out of print for a time when I first went looking for them. Besides the size issue, this was everything I asked for. And if I had been looking for a pocket sized version of the book, I wouldn't have been more pleased. Just keep that in mind while ordering, and for the larger sized book, go with Lady Cottington's Fairy Album (with out 'Pressed' in the title) Or Good Fairy, Bad Fairy. And I hope you enjoy the story as much as I do. :o)

I have the larger version of this book, and it's typical Froud, warped humor with wonderful expressive art. I knew on buying this time that it was a smaller version, but I expected it to be a similar size as the smaller Goblin Companion... it's not. It's even smaller. With the smaller Goblin Companion the small size works, it's a "field guide" after all, and the art still shines through on the pages. With Lady Cottington's book, the writing is barely legible and the silly beauty of Froud's art is lost. This really seems like a publisher trying to cash in on the popularity of art books rather than a genuine piece of work created for an audience. The one point I will give to the small book is that the size does lend it the feel of a real journal you might find in a forgotten attic or buried in the back yard, but that's just not enough to compensate for what is lost here. I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 7 year old niece, and I'm so depressed that this is what I'm giving her. If I knew off hand where my bigger copy was, I'd give her that, and send this one back. Buy the big book.
