Editorial Reviews

Product Description
In 1995 Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book was released to an unsuspecting public. Called "an unstoppable phenomenon" by its publisher, it became an immediate international best-seller. Now 2005 can be named the Year of Lady Cottington with the 10th anniversary of the publication that first exposed the world to the science of fairy exploration.

This volume records in authentic facsimile the latest incarnation of this notorious book along with eight additional pages and enhanced artwork throughout, virtually overflowing with freshly flattened fairies. Former Monty Python member Terry Jones and artist Brian Froud provide a new introduction to place the book in its proper perspective, offering insight into the book's often maligned historic relevance. As a bonus, included is an incriminating DVD showing rare film footage of the elderly Lady Cottington in her garden demonstrating her fairy-squashing technique, as well as a photo gallery, desktop wallpaper, and screensavers.

About the Author
Brian Froud is an award-winning illustrator, author, and fairy authority. His books include international best-sellers such as Faeries, with Alan Lee, and many others. He served as the conceptual designer on Jim Henson's films The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. Froud lives in Devon, England, with his wife, Wendy, and son, Toby.

Terry Jones is known world over as one of the beloved founders of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Believe in Fairies, January 11, 2006
This is a beautiful book. It is nice enough to display in the finest room. There are a few half-naked fairies that were "captured," so it is not recommended for young children. The "nude" pages have a brown wrap around them with a warning. Very amusing. This book is basically the journal of a young girl, whose handwriting needs improving. She catches the fairies in her journal and writes about them. As she grows older, her handwriting improves. The artwork is amazing, very realistic. Or maybe it isn't artwork. Maybe, just maybe these really ARE fairies that were squished between the pages.

I bought this book when it first came out and fell in love with it. It's whimsical and funny with a lot of beautiful pictures as well! Worth every penny to me and you'll find me giving this as a gift to the friends I know who appreciate great art and humor.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Little Disturbing, But Interesting and Great Artwork, July 2, 2006
This really is a must have for serious fairy collectors. The artwork is superb and very unique. However, this is not a book for children or die-hard Cicely Mary Barker fairy fans because the fairies are really pressed, and very explictly dressed. I guess provocative might be a better word. The fairies are not nude but there is a great deal of detail shown because their garments are very thin and scant. I am glad I bought this book for my collection, but I won't be sharing it with my daughters, also fairy enthusiasts and collectors, until they are much older.
