5.0 out of 5 stars lady croissant

I love it when artist release live material, I love how they rework songs from their studio recording to producing there sound live. It also shows their vocal range, sometimes that can be a good thing or a bad thing for some artists. But with Sia, she shines beautifully her orchestrations are lush, multi-layered and she belts it out for the world to take notice...

3.0 out of 5 stars sigh... why moderation is good
Oh boy... I wanted to love this one, but something about the live performance gave Ms. Furler free rein to make syllable taffy. The same drawn-out and blended vocal style that made the latter parts of 'Where I Belong' roll on Colour The Small One is taken to a sad extreme here, with no hint of e.g. the crisp staccato of 'Sunday' to moderate it. I still enjoy the album,...

5.0 out of 5 stars lady croissant, April 3, 2007
This review is from: Lady Croissant (Audio CD)

I love it when artist release live material, I love how they rework songs from their studio recording to producing there sound live. It also shows their vocal range, sometimes that can be a good thing or a bad thing for some artists. But with Sia, she shines beautifully her orchestrations are lush, multi-layered and she belts it out for the world to take notice. With all of her songs like the classic, Destiny and Breathe Me, she sings beautifully, heartfelt and full of emotion and strength. This is the type of collection (more e.p style than anything) that makes you to crave more and I wish there was more included in this package like a DVD, would have been fantastic.
But alas we are still treated to this gorgeous collection, and it acts like a reminder of why we love Sia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stellar, May 10, 2007

This review is from: Lady Croissant (Audio CD)
Contrary to her American solo debut, there is nothing small about Sia. She is known for heavyily layered and multi-faceted music--at once soulful while being as modern and trippy as one can get. On a recorded album, Sia shines bright--her voice, a polished female dripping sweet notes off her lips and bold in her delivery. But here, on her live EP "LAdy Croissant," Sia is stellar--a true gut-buster in her vocal delivery. This woman can really SANG, and it sounds even better than the pre-recorded material--this live ish is the real deal. So, do yourself a favour and pick up "Lady Croissant"--it is brilliant...from the varied interpretations of Sia/Zero 7 classics like "Destiny" and "Breathe Me", to the new studio track "Pictures," Sia delivers a set of lively vocals that sooth your ears and pick at your brain with beautiful intensity. This is one "croissant" you'll want to savor :)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Music is (Not) Lost In the Translation of a Live setting..., April 17, 2007
This review is from: Lady Croissant (Audio CD)
On April 3, 2007, Sia, whose side gig is as a featured performer for the band Zero 7, released a 9-track EP of all live material (save for one new worthy studio track called "Pictures"). Curiously titled "Lady Croissant", the haunting, soulful project's live material was recorded in NYC in 2006.

Primarily comprised of songs from both Sia's catalog and Zero 7's, the set does include live versions of 2 other new trax, "Lentil" & "I Go To Sleep".

Any Sia/Zero 7 fan will appreciate this addition to their collection, especially since it contains live renditions of arguably Zero 7's most popular song "Destiny" (from their debut), and Sia's own behemoth "Breathe Me" (which was prominently featured in both 6 Feet Under's series finale & the film Freedom Writers).

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, May 16, 2007
This review is from: Lady Croissant (Audio CD)
I first heard Sia Furler introduced herself as "Lady Croissant" at a Zero7 concert in 2006. Now her latest album's title, her live versions of her songs (along with Zero7's songs) are wonderfully orchestrated. The perfect combination of her sultry voice and classic instruments produce an amazing outcome. As delicious as the album title, Lady Croissant prevails.

5.0 out of 5 stars No jam needed, May 18, 2007
This review is from: Lady Croissant (Audio CD)
I first hear Sia's voice when I rented the movie Blue Crush. That's not the kind of movie I would normally ever rent, but I missed living in a tropical beach community so I rented it, in spite of the unappealing played-out hollywood commericalness of it all. When the movie credits rolled I tracked down the artists, first Zero 7 & then Sia and it's been a long time since I've listened to a CD so repeatedly. Sia's music is smooth yet gritty with intelligent - if not original - lyrics. Plus this girl actually has some funk in her. A white girl with funk is always always a pleasant surprise in my book. No jam needed with this croissant, Sia brings it and hearing her live is an extra special treat!

I probably give away my old age by calling this an "album"! I have never been a fan of live albums as so many artists can cheat with studio trickery to get each song perfect, so live brings out all the flaws. Sia however is so friggin terrific without altering her performance that with her, "live" is just as fantastic as "studio". She is my favorite singer as the voice you hear from her is always real, unique and special. She is a terrific talent and I highly recommend this album for Sia fans or anyone who has heard her sing or seen/heard her Youtube videos. There is also a studio track thrown in to savor as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful sound from Australia, November 22, 2008
By
This review is from: Lady Croissant (Audio CD)
This CD contains a set of beautifully orchestrated ballads by a very offbeat and clever songstress. The music has a haunting feel that stays with you. She continues to mesmerize me with her almost unintelligble words and her mixture of sadness and humor. I hope she intends to continue her music and her art. Sia and her musicians produce a wonderland of sound that is very different yet so very beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sia's voice is amazing!, January 19, 2008

The tracks on this CD are all live except the first track. Sia's voice cannot be compared to any contemporary artist. Each song is moving and chilling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lady Croissant, March 5, 2011
This review is from: Lady Croissant (Audio CD)
This is a great album of Sia doing what she does best, singing beautiful songs in her own haunting and captivating style. There is a good mix of songs here, the first being a new studio track and the others live. 'Breathe me' is as fantastic as ever and 'Distractions' is simply superb. This is great for late at night, chilling to and completely relaxing with her beautiful voice. Well worth a go, if you're new to Sia or already completely hooked.
