10 great songs, but all 10 appear on 'Best of Styx' as well,

This is a great 10 track best of for Styx covering the best of their Wooden Nickel recordings, 1972-1974. If I were compiling a 10 song Wooden Nickel best of for Styx, it would look identical to this.
However, don't buy this unless you're on a budget. This is a great 10 song best of, but there is a better option: 'Best of Styx,' which features all 10 songs here plus 'Winner Take All.' Overall, this is a great option for the budget minded Styx fan who wants to have their early years covered, but keep in mind that the 'Best of Styx' is ten times better. Highly recommended, but only for the budget minded Styx fan. If you own the 'Best of Styx' (Wooden Nickel/RCA), don't buy it because you already have all of these songs! ENJOY!!!

The original Wooden Nickel "Best Of",
By Earl Douglass "Earl Douglass" (Morganton, NC USA) - See all my reviews

This CD is a re-issue of the Wooden Nickel "Best of" release that was only on vinyl LP. It features all but one (Winner Take All) from that fine collection. As someone who loved the original (pre-Equinox) sound of Styx, this is music to my ears!

Nice Greatest Hits Collection (Early Years),

If you're looking for a small sampling of Styx's 1972-1974 music, this wouldn't be a bad place to start. 10 songs from Styx I, II, The Serpent is Rising and Man of Miracles. Lady is clearly the most recognizable song. Best Thing and What Has Come Between Us are early songs and worth a listen. You Need Love moves quicker than most of the early diamonds in the rough. I'm Gonna Make You Feel It has always been one of my favorites. Witch Wolf and The Grove of Eglantine are also very good. Southern Woman, Man of Miracles and Rock & Roll Feeling are all JY guitar songs.

This truly is great cd with some great Styx songs but this pretty much is the same as Best Of Styx just without Winner Take All and that one of the better songs on it so yes its a 5 STAR album but they've had better.

This is a great collection of great early Styx songs... unfortunatley during mastering BMG caught a break in What Has Come Between Us and set the last bit in the beginning of the next track (Pretty much, there's a break, it goes to the next track... finishes the song and then goes on to the next song in the same track)Other than that, no complaints

Completely Worthless-Almost,
By Mike "Mike" (Maryland) - See all my reviews

The only reason that I bought this disc is because it has the original "Lady" on it and it was cheap. I was not expecting anything else, and I wasn't disappointed. There are no other good songs on here and whoever put htis disc together should be fired.

Great CD but buy BEST OF STYX instead,

This is the same as BEST OF STYX except for this album does not have "Winner Take All" on it and trust me your going to want to have that song because that is a good one. This is basically the best of wooden nickel year and is only for a tried and true Styx fan. Great CD it may not sound that great to you it isn't the Styx of the GRAND ILLUSION or PIECES OF EIGHT albums. Tommy Shaw wasn't in the band yet on any of these songs. These are the original members here. Dennis DeYoung, James Young, John Panozzo, Chuck Panozzo, and John Curulewski.

This a great Styx CD and it has a lot of great Styx songs that should be in any true Styx fans collection. But it really is the same as Best Of Styx without Winner Take All. And that is one of the better songs on that cd. So yeah it is a 5 Star Cd buy don't buy this go buy Best Of Styx instead.
