An Unbelievably Inept Film Gains Lunatic Momentum Throughout As It Embraces Bad Movie Magic,
By K. Harris "Film aficionado" (Albuquerque, NM) - See all my reviews (TOP 10 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Lady Frankenstein (Enhanced) La Figlia di Frankenstein - 1971 (DVD)
Pity poor Joseph Cotton for having been reduced to starring in this Italian made gothic schlock piece circa 1971, it's a far cry from his appearances in Citizen Kane, Shadow of a Doubt, and The Third Man. What is more disturbing is that he may be the worst thing in the movie! Capitalizing on the titillating exploitation films of the late sixties and early seventies, this mash-up infuses traditional Frankenstein hijinks with far racier adult elements. The beginning, with Cotton's Baron Frankenstein, trying to bring animation to the dead is staggeringly lifeless--and I absolutely hated this movie. But as things progress and his daughter steps into the limelight, the movie starts to take on a loopy energy that is hard to resist. She's going to build her a man for selfish purposes of her own! As the movie embraces its own ludicrous lunacy, it becomes quite a treat in bad film mayhem. KGHarris, 12/11.
