Book Description

Harlequin Historical August 1, 1997
Keeper Of The Ancient Secrets

Tala ap Griffin was both princess and priestess to the people of Arden Wood. And Lord Edon Halfdansson had succumbed to her mysterious charms. But was her power simple woodland sorcery, or the force of eternal love?

His liege had decreed that Edon, Wolf of Warwick, return to his lair and take to wife the bewitching Tala, uniting their warring fiefdoms in peace—though a marriage bed shared with the fiery princess could prove nothing more than a battlefield!

1.0 out of 5 stars Bait And Switch Romance, May 5, 2009
This review is from: Lady Of The Lake (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
This historical romance starts out with an interesting time and premise, in 899 AD England on the cusp of change. The heroine, the last Princess of her Celtic forest clan is mysterious and strong, the invading hero intelligent, brave and seemingly openminded.

By the time page 200 rolls around, the 'hero' and his King have forced the Princess and the Celts into baptism at the threat of death; heroine Tala is forced into marriage against her religion, her sisters are captured and sent to a convent, the village and the forest have been burned down and the heroine's faith 'proven' false. And yet somehow, Tala remains hopelessly in love with Edon, a man who seems to approve of her as a wife solely on his attraction to her generous Celtic boobs. He has an entourage consisting of Jews, Muslims and all sorts from the lands he's travelled, and yet he has no tolerance for the Pagan faith of his forced bride. There's about as much chemistry as a leaking battery between them.

If you don't mind historical romances where the heroine's spirit is crushed in the midst of your love story, you'll enjoy this book. I'm still trying to decide if the author didn't have some sort of pro-Christian agenda poorly hidden in the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most spectacular piece of literature ever written, January 15, 2004

This review is from: Lady Of The Lake (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
This book was like an adventure to me and I would definitely suggest those who enjoy this type of story base to buy and read it! This has been my favorite book for a long time now, nothing can surpass it. Tala has a strong personality resulting in a perfect complex role aside the domineering Viking. Must read for anyone who enjoys fantasy, medieval, vikings, or just a strong romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, August 29, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Lady Of The Lake (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
Some liberties taken with the period. But the characters are
fleshed out terrifically. The story runs with poetical--vivid images and swift action scenes. And, oh yeah, it's a romance too.
Highly enjoyed!
