Book Description

The Lady in the Locket is the first novel of the Legacy trilogy. American privateer Richard Tetrault arrives in March 1814 at his family’s plantation on the Rappahannock River in Virginia to find his home in ashes, a sister dead, and his mother kidnapped. A vision of his deceased father accosts him in the midst of that smoking disaster. Yet this is only the beginning of a journey to an understanding of the deadly legacy that threatens everything he is or ever could be. In his search for survivors, the privateer infuses rebellious planter’s daughter Tara Kendall with an intense passion that throws her head-on into the privateer’s dilemma.

As this epic story of a man, a woman, and a country at war unfolds, the arrival of the privateer brings to light blackmail that threatens Burton Kendall’s brazen plantation home high above the Rappahannock. He, too, will feel the heat of the privateer’s curse with a personal loss that staggers him.

The Legacy trilogy:
The Lady in the Locket
Smuggler’s Haven
Devil's Elbow

Nicole Margot Spencer is also the author of Exile's Bane

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful writing and reading May 22, 2012

I could not put this book down and loved the period and characters. This one is a favorite but I did not realize it was a trilogy. When I got to the end I about fell over when it said "to be continued". I wanted so badly to see the romantic ending but guess I will get the next book to see. My Kindle now holds the other books so I can read and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lady in the Locket (Legacy trilogy) July 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really liked this book, the way the story started and the way it kept my interest ... full of the life one would expect from an era long gone, with a hint of an important mystrey yet to be uncovered, even leading the inquisitive to the next story in the trilogy.
But I'm here to warn you, if there are chores that need doing ... look out, for those chores just might be delayed, for it is hard to stop reading!

3.0 out of 5 stars Rough start... July 2, 2012

*****SPOILERS*****
This book was very hard to get into. I had to keep forcing myself to stay with it. Richard and Tara have an instant attraction for each other that goes awry when her drunken father believes Richard has disgraced his daughter. He disowns her, so she decides to stow away on Richard's ship. The writing isn't as smooth as I would like, but the story is still appealing. I did wonder on occasion why both Tara's father and Richard kept letting the murderer and his associates walk away. It's a no brainier that if someone kills half your family you should take immediate action to prevent further loss of (innocent) life. It was obviously interesting enough to get me to buy all 3 books, but the cover art hooked me on books 2 and 3.
