Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Starred Review. Delamere follows An Heiress at Heart with an intense mid-Victorian Christmas story. Tom Poole returns to England after making his fortune in Australian gold mines and falls for Margaret Vaughn, an heiress engaged to another man. Margaret is living a lie: her deceased father left her estate in debt, and her fiancé's wealth is a fabrication. When she breaks off her engagement, she agrees to borrow money from Tom, though she still thinks his self-made success is inferior to her heritage. Meanwhile, a man from Tom's past threatens to destroy his future with Margaret. Fans of inspirational romance will appreciate subtle references to Tom's Christian faith and the lack of explicit sex scenes, and the undercurrent of attraction between Margaret and Tom is a powerful force that keeps the story moving. (Oct.)

Review

"Engrossing and heartbreaking. An Heiress at Heart is poignant, profound and lovely." (USA Today's HEA blog)

"This sweet and charming romance will touch your heart."
(Sabrina Jeffries, New York Times Bestselling Author)

"Jennifer Delamere sets a new standard in Victorian romance, with characters who shine and a plot that will keep you guessing."
(Abby Gaines, author of The Earl's Mistaken Bride)

"A sweetly rendered tale of discovery and forgiveness with a refreshing touch of innocence."
(Cindy Holby, Bestselling author of Angel's End Cindy Holby, Bestselling author of Angel's End)

"Tom and Margaret's worlds collide in electric, sometimes violent, ways, leaving readers wondering if they can find love together when the only people able to keep them apart are themselves. Both of them must learn when to fight and when to surrender to their desire, and both must also determine when to hold on to what's been left, and when to let go and begin a brand new legacy. Readers will appreciate the way the plot swerves early in the book, away from historical romance's traditional love triangle angst and into a complex, character-driven climax. It's easy to care about Tom and Margaret and their world, yet difficult to predict what will happen to them." --Historical Novel Society Reviews

"Delamere reaches out to readers yearning for a lovely story that is sensitive yet passionate. The power of love, second chances and even the joy of the holiday season combine to create the perfect atmosphere for this charmer." --RT Book Reviews, 4 Stars

Customer Reviews

It is a clean romance that is truly romance.

I, personally, would have preferred more of a Christian feel since the book was labeled as such, but it was a great book that I will be keeping.
T. Murrell
Jennifer Delamere is a wonderful, very original author who works within the framework of historical romance.

I think I will start reading everything that Jennifer Delamere writes now! This is the second book, which could stand alone if you hadn't read the first. I liked the characters with their flaws and struggles, but also their strengths and weaknesses. It is a clean romance that is truly romance. The story had me fighting to put it down when I needed to.

Jennifer Delamere is a wonderful, very original author who works within the framework of historical romance. I enjoyed every bit of this book and couldn't put it down because I wanted to know what would happen next. Tom Poole is a great complex character doing his best to live according to the scriptures, yet he has to overcome his past history and old habits. Margaret Vaughan has her walls to break down to accept what she really wants in life, which makes it very interesting to see how she develops. I'm looking forward to Ms. Delamere's next book and can't wait until it's ready for purchase.

SO GOOD!!! I read book one in the Love's Grace series about three weeks ago. I found myself wanting to return to the good author Jennifer Delamere. This book gave me the same feeling about the main characters I had when I read Gone With The Wind. So Scarlett and Rhett-esque! But very satisfying, because I was able to know this "Rhett" better. Really great book. You'll definitely want to read An Heiress at Heart first.

In "South Pacific," Emil LeBeq advises when you do see a stranger who so immediately calls to your heart, "Then fly to her side, and make her your own, Or all through your life, you will dream all alone." Flying to her side made for passion, heart-ache, and complexities in 1952 for Nelly and Emil----and it was even more complicated a hundred years earlier for Tom Poole and a striking woman he sees across a crowded London ballroom on August 1852.

Tom himself is one center of attention. He is an Australian who has become fabulously rich from hard-work, luck, and canny toughness in the Australian gold mines. His backstory of shipwreck, survival with the Australian Aboriginal peoples, and a legendary black horse add to his mystery and attractions. His adored sister, Lizzie, has recently become Lady Sommerville (a story well-told in "An Heiress at Heart," first of author Delamere's Love's Grace trilogy). Tom's own attention is caught by a breathtakng woman---"tall and stately with every feature Tom had always found desirable in a woman, gleaming dark brown hair, high cheekbones, and a full sensuous mouth." (p. 2) He would like to fly to her side and make her his own, then and there.

After much effort, he reaches her side, achieving an introduction to the enchanting Margaret Cardington. But the complications begin immediately. Said to be herself a great heiress, Margaret is engaged to be wed in a few days to Paul Denault, nephew of a Duke and believed to be, if anything, even richer than Margaret. In fact, the ball Tom is attending is given by the Duke to celebrate Margaret's and Paul's forthcoming nuptials. That, to some men, could be the end of that.

“A Lady Most Lovely” by Jennifer Delamere in the Love’s Grace series
This historical romance centers on Margaret Vaughan and Tom Poole, who are attracted to each other from the start even though Margaret is engaged to wealthy Paul Denault. Tom and Margaret have conflicts that appear insolvable, and they experience the true-to-life emotions of those in love but who don’t believe they are meant to be together. Intrigue and mystery surround all the characters, which keeps the reader turning the pages.
As the second book in the Love’s Grace Series, Delamere makes references to people and events in the first book, “An Heiress at Heart.” It isn’t necessary to have read that book, but readers are sure to want to read it and see how the saga first began. A must read for those interested in a Christian-based love story.
