About the Author

Beverley Eikli is the author of eight historical romances published by Pan Macmillan Momentum, Robert Hale, Ellora's Cave and Total-e-Bound. Recently she won UK Women's Fiction publisher Choc-Lit's 'Search for an Australian Star' competition. Her racy Regency Romp, Rake's Honour, written under her Beverley Oakley pseudonym, has just been shortlisted for a 2012 Australian Romance Readers award in the Favourite Historical category. Beverley Eikli wrote her first romance novel when she was seventeen. However, drowning the heroine on the last page was, she discovered, not in the spirit of the genre so her romance-writing career ground to a halt and she became a journalist. Throwing in her job on a metropolitan daily in South Australia to manage a luxury safari lodge in the Okavango Delta, in Botswana, led her into a new world of romance and adventure: living in a thatched cottage in the middle of a mopane forest with the handsome bush pilot she met around a camp fire. Seventeen years later, after exploring the world in the back of Cessna 404s and CASA 212s during low-level survey sorties over the French Guyanese jungle and Greenland's ice cap, Beverley is back in Australia living a more conventional life with her husband and two daughters in a pretty country town an hour north of Melbourne She writes traditional Regency Romance as Beverley Eikli and sensual historical romance as Beverley Oakley.

More About the Author

I was a journalist before I started writing romance seriously while working in the male-dominated safari and airborne survey industries in the '90s. You could say I took my love of roguish heroes and worthy heroines to new heights as I plotted my novels in the back of light aircraft at 250ft above the French Guianese jungle or Greenland ice cap.
Though I've written light hearted, sexy historicals - and more complex psychological erotic Regencies - as Beverley Oakley, redemption is my favourite theme. I love exploring the struggles of flawed heroines with dark pasts which, in the context of their times, generally put them in a perilous situation. Of course, a Happy-Ever-After is always the goal, but that road is never a predictable or easy one.
The novels I write under my Beverley Eikli name have been described as 'slow-burn romances with a thriller ending' and my Regencies as having the plot twists of 80's TV series 'Dynasty' combined with the 'elegance' of nineteenth century writer Anthony Trollope.
I was born in the African mountain kingdom of Lesotho during the final years of the British Colonialism - the time and setting for my current novel - before marrying the handsome Norwegian bush pilot I met while I was running a safari lodge in Botswana's beautiful Okavango Delta.
I now live in a pretty town north of Melbourne with my gorgeous husband, two beautiful daughters, and adorable Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy.

Customer Reviews

Poorly written, poorly edited, poorly thought out.

A great mystery to unfold with characters that developed over the course of the story and a well crafted love affair.

I loved the premise of this book. A great mystery to unfold with characters that developed over the course of the story and a well crafted love affair. If you like things a bit steamier don't let that put you off as the roller coaster ending and intrigue amply compensated for there not being any actual sex scenes. Left me feeling very satisfied and immediately looking for her next book.

I really enjoyed this book. From the moment I turned the first page I was hooked. I looked forward to getting home each night to read a little more and felt a sense of loss when I finished it. I'm looking forward to reading all Beverley Eikli's books and will also read Beverley Oakley's raunchier ones.

The beginning was a little confusing. After I figured out who was who, the story was wonderful with enough suspense to keep me reading to the end. The love story/ romance was clean and wholesome. The ending left you feeling warm and fuzzy.

Pleasurable regency that has a lot of actions with turns. Sweet and clean with no sex is just how I like them.

This is quite a historical romance. I would have liked to see some sensual scenes in it, but it is full of action, scandal and quite a tumultuous love story. If you like historical fiction with suggested romance, or sweet and HEA, this is the book for you. It was an ok read.

Sarah takes an opportunity and assumes another's life after the woman drowns. Not wanting to marry James she decides being a governess would be better then that. She develops an attraction to her employer. He really doesn't trust women too well after what happened with his wife. And unfortunately he discovers her scheme fairly fast. But it is that point in the story that it takes some twists and turns you didn't necessarily see coming. This is an entertaining historical romance that is perfect for people looking for an entertaining but clean romance.
