5.0 out of 5 stars Very intersting story of childhood abuse &life of a stripper, November 22, 2003

This review is from: The Lady is a Stripper (Paperback)
I LOVED this book! Dusty has lived quite a life. She goes into detail about her experiences with childhood mental and physical abuse which she survived with her sister. Later she describes her path as a stripper and the men in her life- The title is appropriate, she really was a LADY in her life and career. It teaches the valuable lesson of life is what you want to make of it- not necessarily determined by your childhood. She made consciencious decisions to not abuse her own children and to maintain integrity and grace in an occupation that is stereotypically not associated with those qualities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Title Doesn't Do Justice, July 28, 2007
This review is from: The Lady is a Stripper (Paperback)
This lady isn't merely a stripper; she's a class act all the way. What a horrific childhood; to have survived such abuse was a miracle in itself. This was during the time when children were still considered their parent's property, to do with as they wished. State intervention came late and was woefully incompetent.

Dusty came through all of this, amazingly, with a determination to be a success. Husbands come and go, and Dusty is the force driving them all. This book could be a case study of how an abusive male parent can shape a woman's attitude toward men and what to expect from relationships. Fortunately, Dusty was strong enough to break free of her past--but to know more you'll have to read the book.

I could NOT put this one down, and neither will you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to put down!, January 31, 2007
This review is from: The Lady is a Stripper (Paperback)
This book is compelling in its storytelling. Dusty lived a life that most people couldn't fathom, but did it with grace. Put aside a bit of time and you will gain new respect for women in this profession and what places them there sometimes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jennifer Diamond - Stripper, January 26, 2012
This review is from: The Lady is a Stripper (Paperback)
Dear Dusty,

Just read a few pages of your book...thanks for mentioning me....It's really cool to know we are both still around.
You were a feature when I first started working at Carmichaels and I learned a lot from just watching you. You were a class act, inspirational and so beautiful....Sounds like life has been good to you. Am looking forward to reading the rest of your book....Turban was a real mess wasn't he? He taught me how to get out of police hand cuffs with a bobby pin which a Stripper with a wig always just happens to have as we did in the good old days. That was a great party trick I used more than once. He really did love you ya know? As much as he could love anyone. Why do you think he talked me into taking "limey" to Vegas with me...lol.

I finished my career head-lining and living in NYC. Maybe one day I'll get the energy to write a sequel... it was even more exciting than Vegas...would love it if you could comment on my kindle book since you've already read it and glad you caught on to those I wrote about, was hoping for that.... After all Bless Carmichael's heart known as "Pappa King" to my (then) little daughter. May he rest in peace...he gave me my first chance and as you know he was brutally honest but he belived in me and that gave me to courage to go on to Vegas and NYC. My you LOVE, LAUGH AND ALWAYS DANCE!
