A wonderful look into someone's life!,

This review is from: Lady Susan (Paperback)
Having read most of Austen's books before, growing up, I had missed reading this one for one reason or another. So I was glad to get to it this past summer and enjoy reading a wonderful book by an author I loved and yet had not read. Its so nice!
I found it to be a bit different than the others of hers, different than Northanger Abby, or Pride and Prejudice. I would agree it is like Sense and Sensibility, but its still its own story. Because of the format, you get the idea you are reading over the shoulder of someone, or let into a private world, and that is a nice change, but in the wrong hands a poor writer would muck it up - not so with Austen, it was perfect. All most as if she challenged herself to write this way. Well, it was very good, and well worth reading, enjoy it summer, fall, spring or winter!

Lady Susan should not be missed just because it's not as long as to Austen's other novels; it's just in a different category. That said, I enjoyed it much more than say, Northhanger Abbey or some of her other short works. It very much like Sense & Sensibility in its tone. The format is different and refreshing, and almost voyeuristic in nature. Like all her works, it's very funny, and compared to works of today, more than worth reading. If you like Austen, you will like this book, if you have not read Austen, perhaps try Pride and Prejudice.
If you have not read Pride and Prejudice for a while, do so - I just did and feel in love with Austen all over again. Pride and Prejudice |
