A BEAUTIFUL AND UNFORGETTABLE LOVE STORY!,
By Ercie Berwick (Elmhurst, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
Thomas Tryon left acting to write, and I'm so glad that he did! His novel "Lady" slowly builds to a crescendo, and then when I finally understood where the story was going, I just stared at the page, shocked and unbelieving. But what a wonderful love this was! I have read the book twice and will no doubt read it again. Thomas Tryon has an incredibly fertile imagination, and he really outdid himself in this novel. I recommend it highly to anyone who would enjoy reading an outstanding and very unusual love story.

A Five-Star Surprise,
By "susie4eyes" (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lady (Hardcover)
This book came to me by delicious accident: a friend found it in a box of books being given away in my apartment building laundry room. It sat on my shelf for years, until my supply of unread books began to dwindle, and I thought I'd give it a go, though I knew nothing about the book, or it's author. It's set in a previous generation, but deals with issues of the time that modern readers may not relate to, but can certainly learn from. It's overall theme is one of coming of age, and in a sense I believe it tells the story of all of our childhoods: what we see going on around us in our neighborhoods, the seemingly insignificant events that are tantamount to a child as he/she grows up, and the events of the world that, while we may not be entirely conscious of them or understand them, they shape us nonetheless. I'm sorry to see that this book is primarily out of print (and I'm certainly not giving up my 1974 edition), but do what you must to get your hands on it! You will fall madly in love with Lady as we all have ...

Tryon's greatest achievement, and in my opinion, one of the most hauntingly beautiful books ever written. You will want to read it again and again. It is the rarest of tomes. One that you must read slowly, savoring every beautiful word. I guarantee you will be walking around in a delicious semi-hypnotic state after reading this one!

Lady is a gentle story of a boy's introduction to life.,

This review is from: Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
Lady is a book that speaks to my heart. I read it for the first time while I was in high school. It opened my mind, in a very gentle way, to the idea of inter-racial relationships. By the time the pairing of the characters was revealed, I cared so much for them that skin color seemed irrelevant to their relationship, only becoming relevant in what it made them do to live harmoniously. This book has moved with us for 20 years, a strong statement since we are an Air Force family. I am saving this book for my children because Lady is a story that I want each of them to know.

It is difficult to find words to express my feelings any more appropriately than the ones which are already posted here; however, after reading these reviews, I feel compelled to add one more. I picked this book up at a newstand years and years ago, and once I got engaged in it, I could not stop. I have read it several times since then, allowing a hiatus of a few years to intervene. With each reading the novel becomes richer to me. I am writing this because just this evening, I was told by someone that I recommended it to that she is going to use it in her high school class. I hope that the reputation of the book continues to spread.

Thest BEST Love story I have ever read!,
By Rosemary (Providence, RI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lady (Hardcover)
Tryon to this day, still remains an outstanding writer. This beautifully written love story will have an unforgettable impact on your life long after you finish reading it. Lady is second only to Harvest Home and The Other. Even though this story was written 25 years ago, it still remains of the best love stories ever written. Lady should be read by everyone, you will not regret or forget its impact.

Incredible story,
This review is from: Lady (Hardcover)
I read this book in 1976. It was the first book I ever read where I felt as though I had lost my best friend when I read the last word on the last page. You will love this story and won't want it to end. Ever. I highly recommend it.
