1.0 out of 5 stars Trite
I selected this book because I knew the author and her love of the Egyptian culture. While I cannot comment on the historical value of the book, I found the characters and plot to be trite. This was truly a waste of time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lady Of The Two Lands by Elizabeth Delisi, August 2, 2004
This review is from: Lady of the Two Lands (Paperback)
Elizabeth Delisi's LADY OF THE TWO LANDS is rich with details of ancient Egypt through the eyes of a heroine, Hattie Williams, who travels through time to become the Pharaoh of the two lands of Egypt. The story captures the romance and intrigue as Hattie and Senemut uncovers the murderous plot against the Pharaoh and Prince Tuthmosis. When reading the story, I felt drawn to the glory of ancient Egypt. I would recommend this book to those who are fascinated with the lifestyles of great Egyptian rulers. Although the plot was slightly predictable, the story was quite engaging and has inspired me to do more research on Pharaoh, Hatshepsut and Prince Tuthmosis.

I just finished reading Elizabeth Delisi's LADY OF THE TWO LANDS. An interesting time-travel that takes us back to the time of Hatshepsut and her royal architect, Senemut.

The story plays off the true facts of the female pharaoh's reign and the suspected romance between her and Senemut.

Research shows that Hatshepsut did indeed rule the two lands of upper and lower Egypt, and her temple was one of the most beautiful ever created, though after her death, many images of her were destroyed in an apparent attempt to erase her memory from history.

What Ms. Delisi tells is her version of the rule, and concentrates on the relationship between the female pharaoh and the man she trusted more than any other, Senemut. It is a very carefully rendered insight into the lives of both and the relationship that ensues.

LADY OF THE TWO LANDS is a well-researched story that will take you back in time to an ancient Egypt where magic was never doubted and the impossible made possible.

I couldn't put it down. In this well-researched, suspenseful and entertaining time-travel romance, Elizabeth Delisi transports the reader, along with the heroine, back to the intriguing time period of ancient Egypt. For a modern day woman to suddenly find herself in the position of Pharaoh is a fascinating situation. Ms. Delisi has created a strong heroine and a delicious hero and pitted them against incredible obstacles and evil villains. This is a definite keeper!

5.0 out of 5 stars I cannot express how good this one is., August 5, 2003
This review is from: Lady of the Two Lands (Paperback)
Harriet "Hattie" Williams was an artist. She was hired by the Egyptian Curator of a museum to sketch illustrations for his book about Hatshepsut, the first female Pharaoh to rule ancient Egypt.

While holding a necklace that had once belonged to the famous ruler, Hattie's essence was sent backward in time thirty-five hundred years to reside in Queen Hatshepsut's body.

Hatshepsut was poisoned during the funeral of her husband. She searched her relatives through the millennia and selected Hattie to be the one to help her. Hattie was to temporarily BE Hatshepsut. Hattie's duties were to protect the stepson, eight-year-old Prince Tuthmosis, (heir to the throne) and determine the identity of the betrayer. Once done, Hattie would return to her own time and body.

Hattie was not really given a choice. Thus she wanted only to complete her tasks and return home. Hattie found one person she somehow knew she could trust named Senemut. He was the tutor of Hatshepsut's little daughter, Princess Neferure. Promoted a highly honored position and given the title "Steward of Amun", he became not only Hattie's trusted advisor, but also her love.

***** I cannot tell you how WONDERFUL this story is! The author managed to make the story come alive. The characters seemed REAL. The tale is fast paced and the reader will not become bored. It is available in various electronic formats AND in paperback. Highly recommended! *****

4.0 out of 5 stars Ms. Delisi is a star on the rise!, June 27, 2003
This review is from: Lady of the Two Lands (Paperback)
Hattie Williams is pulled back in time to ancient Egypt to become the first woman Pharoah. Hattie, however, has no idea how to rule a country -- she's an artist from Chicago who had been working on illustrations of Hatshepsut, the woman who SHOULD have been Pharoah. Therein lies the mystery and magic of LADY OF THE TWO LANDS.

Ms. Delisi writes an absolutely intriguing, enthralling, fast-paced read that will appeal to readers of all genres. Her characters are incredibly in-depth, the storyline is unique, and dialogue sings. Add to that a heartwarming and tender love story, and this is a book that you simply can't put down.

Not familiar with ancient Egyptian history, I was still hooked immediately, and look forward to whatever Ms. Delisi has coming next.

I highly recommend LADY OF THE TWO LANDS as a wonderful read and a definite keeper!

5.0 out of 5 stars LADY OF TWO LANDS is absolutely enthralling, June 21, 2003
This review is from: Lady of the Two Lands (Paperback)
In LADY OF THE TWO LANDS, artist Hattie Williams is transported back in time to the time of the pharaohs in ancient Egypt, a time when women had no rights or power. She is not only transported back in time, but into the body of one of the greatest queens and pharaohs who ever lived Hatshepsut.

Hatshepsut implores Hattie to masquerade as queen and safeguard Egypt until such time as she can reinhabit her body safely. She tells Hattie that she has searched through the centuries to find the true heir with whom she could switch places until she could resume her rightful place.

Amazed and awed that she is Hatshepsuts true heir, Hattie is also skeptical, wondering if shes in a dream or delusional. Eventually she comes to grips with her situation and vows to uphold Hatshepsuts sworn duty. She uses her knowledge of history to guide herbut unfortunately history didnt leave any annals of who tried to murder Hatshepsut or the man with whom she finds herself falling in love.

Ms. Delisis writing is clean and masterful. Characterization leaps off the page.

LADY OF TWO LANDS is an absolutely enthralling, exquisite romance that I highly recommend reading. If you loved THE MUMMY, youll love LADY OF TWO LANDS. It has the same magical spirit, yet is a thoroughly unique story. I know I stand in a long line of anxious fans awaiting Ms. Delisis next tale of ancient Egypt. 5.0 out of 5 stars A delight!, June 20, 2003
This review is from: Lady of the Two Lands (Paperback)
This book is a wonderful read! For those who like time travel, ancient Egyptian settings or romance, this book is a must. When Hattie, a simple young woman who happens to be working with ancient Egyptian artifacts in a museum, finds herself suddenly transformed into Hatsepshut, an ancient Egyptian princess, life takes on a whole new dimension. Elizabeth Delisi has a wonderful style of writing and has researched this novel impeccably. I found it impossible to put the book down until I'd read to the very last page. Five stars - Excellent!

4.0 out of 5 stars Charming and inventive, August 25, 2010
This review is from: Lady Of The Two Lands (Paperback)
A friend who knows of my fondness for alternate history recommended this book, and I'm so glad she did. I know little more about Egyptian history than Hattie/Hatshupset, the protagonist of Lady of the Two Lands, but the author supplied plentiful information about everything I wondered about, right down to toilet facilities and contraceptives. Her use of Egyptian magic rather than some science fiction thingummy to transport Hattie from her home in Chicago to the Egypt of the pharoahs drew me in right from the start, and the vivid pictures she painted kept me charmed.

The palace intrigues, military campaigns, and unholy priests were predictable only in their universality, but the characters themselves were believable. The emotions they felt came through clearly, and I ached with Hattie when her lover Senemut was killed. I especially enjoyed reading about the expedition to the land of Punt--an expedition that Hattie knew would succeed, contrary to the predictions of her enemies. It proved that although Hattie, in her new situation in Egypt, might have trouble with simple things like how to get dressed and reading hieroglyphics, she also had the advantage of some "future" knowledge.

Lady of the Two Lands was a good read, fast-moving and brilliantly researched. I recommend it highly.

I was captivated by the sotry of Hattie and Senemut, told against the rich background of Ancient Egypt. Elizabeth Delisi has a rare talent for transporting the reader into the story and winding its tapestry around you. Her knowledge of Ancient Egypt is outstanding and she is skilled at communicating it and setting the stage for Lady of Two Lands. All the colorful figures came to life: Nesi, the queen's lady in waiting; Prince Tuthmosis, a young boy trapped by responsibility and resentful of his stepmother; and of course the evil Hapusenab. Against the background of a world that gave us mystery and magic, Delisi weaves a story of treachery, tragedy and love that keeps you glued to the pages until the very end. And it's an end that is more than fulfilling. Don't mis this one.
