This review is from: The Fan ( Lady Windermere's Fan ) [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2 Import - Spain ] (DVD)
***1/2 1949. Produced and directed by Otto Preminger. This film is an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan. Mrs. Erlynne, an adventuress, arrives in London to see her only daughter Lady Windermere. The young woman, unaware of Mrs. Erlynne's real identity, thinks that her husband is cheating on her with this dangerous woman. This play, in comparison with The Importance of Being Earnest or The Picture of Dorian Gray (Barnes & Noble Classics Series) (Barnes & Noble Classics) is not the most adapted Oscar Wilde work in cinema. If we except TV productions, it was adapted only once for the cinema since Otto Preminger production: Mike Barker's A Good Woman. Madeleine Carroll's performance alone justifies the extra dollars you'll have to pay for this DVD provided that you own a multizone DVD player. Good copy but no extras. Recommended.
