Very good book to read over a weekend!,

This review is from: Lady and the Wolf (Paperback)
I checked out this book from a library several years ago on a whim, and I have not been able to find it since to check it out or buy it! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Katherine learn how things *really* are, especially when they turn out not to be as she believes. My one complaint is that, although I liked the intent of the ending, I thought its delivery was a bit cheesy... Nevertheless, I couldn't put the book down for an entire weekend and I highly recommend this book for people who love a little bit of everything: mystery, murder, betrayal, and romance. (And I'm not generally a romance fan!)

This is one of the best romances I have ever read. It is the perfect combination of plot, character development and romance. My biggest complaint with most romances I've read recently is that the hero and heroine never seem to really have reasons to fall in love, they just do. However, this beautifully written novel actually allows a real relationship build between the fun-loving, gentle rogue Guy and his chaste, Christian freedom loving Kate.
The plot is intriguing and interesting and I really felt the tension mounting between all of the characters. The friendship between two female characters, Kate and Constance, is beautifully done also. Ms. Beard is such an amazing stylist with words. She's an enchanting writer indeed. An example of her amazing metaphorical skills: "His only son had danced from the Scythe of the Reaper during all of the Pestilences' reign, only to take the blade in a moment of stillness long after the music had died." I highly recommend this beautiful fairy tale. You will champion the hero - but you will especially champion the unbelievably fierce little Kate. This is an unusually spunky heroine and I was pleasured to spend a few hours reading about her! Her feats are stunning! Well done!!

Beautiful historical romance.,

This is a beautiful novel, romantic, erotic, exciting. I would recommend it to anyone- I love it. I've read it at least 5 times in as many years. The heroine is a lovely girl, strong but sensitive, wanting to break free but held back by conventions. The hero is fun loving but serious, dedicated and patient. I loved the ending- I thought the author took some serious risks with the grave scene- and I think it added so much to the book. Thank you, Ms. Beard!
