Book Description

"Imagine people in real danger.  They are afraid. They are in pain.  Then some girl with a sword shows up and says she's going to rescue them.  How can she mock a person's only hope like that?  Just who does she think she is?"

The Cryptics have ultimate victory for evil within reach.  A centuries-long war caused by Ajanel's discovery of primal magic has fractured the once unified seven provinces.  The rivalry between a demon ruler and a sorcerer obsessed with immortality has spread an insidious corruption to every corner of a once proud kingdom. There is one obstacle remaining: a golden sword called Aria.

And now it is in the hands of 14-year-old Jessica Hoshi.  Because she is bound to the ancient weapon, she must make the most important decision of her life.

LadyStar: The Dreamspeaker is the first fantasy adventure novel in the Girl Warriors Series.  Themes: friendship, courage, heroism.  Mild fantasy violence and monsters.  Recommended for middle-grade audiences and older.  This is the origin story in the LadyStar series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Creative Read June 11, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Going into The Dreamspeaker, I had no clue what I was getting into. The cover was quite interesting. And if you take a moment to play around on the book's website, it is filled with girls who give off the manga vibe. Which, as a side note, is what I thought The Dreamspeaker was.. a manga.

In a lot of ways, I really enjoyed The Dreamspeaker. Jessica was a very colorful character and her friends and their personalities added in nicely. Scott's writing was simple and well-written, which is sure to please many readers. I never felt like the writing was talking over my head nor too simple that I wanted to throw the book at the wall due to over-explanations. It was a very nice combination.

Despite not being a manga, The Dreamspeaker has that feeling to it. Kick butt girl characters who have an adventure.. great friendships.. and a evil villain who needs desperately to be taken down. I enjoyed exploring Jessica's world and hope to see more of it soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars From Missy's Reads & Reviews May 23, 2011
By Missy

Fantasy has always been a hit-or-miss type deal for me. Either I loved the story or I hated it. Really, I've never found a middle. I still haven't found a middle. Why? LadyStar has quickly topped the charts in my "loved it" category.

Chock full of adventure, vivid imagery and fantastic characters, LadyStar: The Dreamspeaker is the type of fantasy book that you just can't put down once you start reading it. I was hypnotized by the spell that the storyline weaved and stayed securely in its web of magic until I was done, only to sit there for several moments after to bask in the story I had just finished. I may have even drooled a little.

This book did something for me that hasn't been done in quite some time: it made me feel like a kid again. Not in the way that the story was easy to read with small vocabulary. No, that's not the case at all. What I mean is that this story literally had me daydreaming, sucked into a world that I could only wish was real. I felt like I was part of the book, part of every single thing that happened... which meant that my heart and emotions were right there with me, being dragged up and down through a maze of emotions that gave a euphoric and almost nostalgic thrill ride that I haven't been on in some time.

And I wouldn't be doing this book (or the others) justice if I didn't mention the website as well. There are many things you can discover just by reading the site, which is full of excerpts, comics and pretty much everything else that will make you nerd out. For a lack of better terms: it's pretty fabulous.

This book would pretty much be a perfect five for me as far as fantasy goes. Not only is it a great read but it, along with the website, leaves you longing for even more. I cannot wait for more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ajan Champions May 19, 2011

I first discovered this on their webpage and I feel in love with its uniqueness. I sadly had to stop reading it online and when I came back I found out they finished it and put it on sale. So one purchase later I am the proud owner of a digital copy of this fine book and read the whole thing. I now pop over to their webpage and read chapters from the second book. This group of writers is doing a awesome job and I will continue to support them in their projects.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really great book April 11, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed reading this book. This is not my typical genre and yet I couldn't put it down. I was pulled into this magically and mythical adventure at the very beginning. The writing and great descriptions pull you right in. I could imagine myself right there with Jessica and her friends through the journey. I love the young heroines in the book and think that pre-teen/teenaged kids will love it. Not to say that adults won't enjoy this either, because I sure did! I think you will enjoy this book and you have to check out this cool website - [...] I am looking forward to next adventure.
